West Brom boss Roy Hodgson won’t recall Chris Wood from Birmingham

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson today ruled out recalling Chris Wood from his loan at Birmingham despite losing Shane Long to a knee injury for up to six weeks.

The Republic of Ireland international has been ruled out with the bone damage he suffered because of a wild lunge by Alan Hutton in Saturday’s 2-1 derby win at Villa.

But, with Somen Tchoyi and Peter Odemwingie set to start in attack against Liverpool on Saturday and Simon Cox, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Roman Bednar in reserve, Hodgson plans to leave Wood with Blues, for whom he has scored nine goals in just eight starts so far.

The head coach said: “We have no plans to bring him back at the moment. We seem to be doing OK without him and I wouldn’t want to bring him back just to bolster our squad or make our reserves stronger.

“To bring Chris back now would be the wrong thing to do, because he’s getting so much playing time at Birmingham and using it very wisely.”

I would like to see Chris get a shot in the Prem, but, trust Roy knows what he is doing. However, being top scorer in the Championship and having played in a World Cup 12 months ago, he must be starting to wonder what exactly he has to do get his nose in front of Bednar and Fortune.
If he is happy to stay at Blues for now, and ends up the divisions top scorer, what will his stock price be worth than? what did we get him for from Hamilton Wanderers? another gem down to the scouts, well done, again.

    Futures bright.

I mentioned this to Bomber yesterday but from what I’ve seen of Wood at Blues, whilst scoring goals, his touch and technique’s still a bit short of what we have IMO. I think the worst possible thing could be to recall him and for the crowd to expect him to set the world alight.

I personally think Cox would score a hatful in the Championship given the right service and Bednar’s Championship record is something like 1 in every 2 games. Neither of them can get a sniff of our first-team at the moment.

Leave the kid to develop and watch his transfer value shoot up with it!!

Let him stay on the learning curve with the Blues. They have a good manager now, so Chris can progress.

Chris Wood is happy at Blues, they’re happy with him, he’s a hero with fans, why rock the boat? Blues manager is proving to be a gem so the benefit for a young man who is learning his trade is first class. The loan system has proven to work well for good reserves. Let’s hope the rest of our loanees are as successful as Chris. I know Jacques le Chapeau

No. 1, this isn’t about where Roy see’s Chris Wood in the pecking order at the Hawthorns, this is about developing one of the many fantastic young propsects we have at the club. Wood is getting good playing time at Blues both in the Championship and Europe and repaying that faith with goals. His touch and all round play is only going to improve from match time which ultimately benefits us in the long run.

I hope Thorne goes out on loan to Blues too. It’ll be a good development step for him playing in the championship for a good manager in Chris Hughton. When you think about the cards Hughton was dealt towards the end of the summer with the blues ownership being declared bankrupt and having little to no funds, he’s doing a terrific job in my opinion.

It’s also good to see Blues finding their feet with our help i.e. Wood, Myhill, Pablo (albeit permanently) and maybe Thorne. Both clubs benefit. Win, win.

Could not agree more. We must have one of the best young squads in the Prem and the more games they get at a higher level than the reserves the better. These are our team for next year and after. However if Roy thinks they can do a job now I’m sure he will bring them back. Jones has come in and doing a very good job.

What we should be doing is using the Wood and possible Thorne loan deals to make Foster’s move permanent. Imagine if Blues get promotion on the back of Wood’s goals and we then lose our first choice ‘keeper because of it.

1, Mon, I read your heartfelt plea to the powers that be at E+S the other day( and very moved i was too ) about Wolves fans on the Albion boards. You bleated on about about how unfair it was to you all, and as you gathered speed, you began speaking for the masses ( which did worry me slightly ) as your a nice bloke with normally lots of interesting stuff to say, but the self proclaimed voice of the Baggie masive you aint. We only need one half!

Hi Lone, oh contraire my furry friend, I’m not setting myself as a spokesman for the Baggies fans on here, I am stating what I thought was obvious, lets put it to the test shall we, how many regular Baggie posters are happy with the nonsensical, vitriolic crap that keeps getting posted on these pages, or think they are has good has they used to be?
You would think given that we are sitting comfortably mid table after beating our two nearest neighbours in one week, one of which we had not beaten at theirs since 1979, and a squad better than we have had for many a longer year, and a manager with some serious nous, and a well run club with no financial worries would be a relevant reason for a fan of most clubs to be feeling pretty good at the moment.
Contrast this with Wolves situation, worst run in decades, fans revolting, Manager publicly calling them for all sorts, Millions of debt just over the horizon, looking like another relegation fight season, again, and its not even November yet, and in all probability going into the next game looking to be humiliated, and you would think they would have more concerns than posting on here.
Has for giving it the “Big un” on the Wolves pages, to what do you refer? do tell, I would like to know the phrase I have used and that has so offended, and its irrelevance to subject it was posted on.
Just look at this page, 17 posts, 4 of them Wolves, I was on a Wolves thread the other day, over a 100 posts, one Baggie post, and some one was still moaning to the moderators about Baggies being allowed on their site. You are absolutely right about one thing, you have to be able to take it if you are going to give it!

    22 WONOH,

other people have asked why we get so many wolves fans on here, and I guess the answer,as you’ve explained,is fairly simple-

if your neighbour lives in an attractive home, that impresses everyone, and your place is falling apart, then even if you don’t like them, you want to jump over the fence and live in their place.

But having done that, you then try to wreck it so that it’s worse than yours……….

22, Mon, Cheers for the reply. You havent offended me at all, and i hope i never do you. When we first crossed swords on here, me and you, i dont think we really liked each other very much. We used to be at it hammer and tongs. BUT, over time, certanally on my part, respest and having a bit of a laff along the way seems to be the order of the day. Thank goodness.
I fully understand that this is your/Albion’s site, and belive it or not i do try to tread carefully when on here offering alternative and constructive views on matters Baggie:) Others dont and the bile does show through and you are correct to be abit narked.

Speaking as someone that through an accident of birth used to dislike the Albion; Because of these Albion pages on the good old E+S, i now find that i dont. I could go futher but i would regret it in the morning.
Because we are allowed on each others sites now and again, i now find meself feeling that some of you lot are nearing Human. Haha.

Hi Lone, I think you have misunderstood where I’m coming from, I dont want Wolves fans banned per se, or vice versa, I would like to see nonsensical, irrelevant, and spiteful posts stopped. Ive no problem with Wolves fans taking the mick, or posting on here, as long as it is (or at least attempts to be) humorous, or even slightly relevant, but come on, you read through the obvious Wolves posts on here and tell me what they are bringing to the party?
You can see these pages dying, 31 posts on here, and given we are in a good place at the moment, you would expect a lot more. Contrast that with Wolves, struggling to sell 9000 tickets to play the League Leaders, yet manage to put 1000s of posts from 100s of posters a week on E&S boards and you would have to agree its a bit squiffy, simple question is, where are they all coming from? because they aint at the games?
