Paul Scharner’s joy at West Brom win against Aston Villa
Monday 24th October 2011, 10:39AM BST.
Paul Scharner today revealed his joy at clinching West Brom’s first league win at Villa Park in 32 years – and accused Aston Villa of targeting striker Shane Long.
The Austria international netted the second-half winner that gave the Baggies their first league success at Villa since 1979.
But the win came at a cost with Long forced off by Alan Hutton’s challenge.
Scharner said: “I was delighted to score but the main thing was to get the win for the supporters because they had to wait 32 years for it to happen here.
“You could see especially in the first 10-15 minutes that Villa tried very hard to kick Shane. I think they got away with it and, eventually, Shane had to go off the field.”
