Chris Brunt hails ‘hero’ Shane Long
Monday 17th October 2011, 2:00PM BST.
West Brom captain Chris Brunt today hailed new Baggies hero Shane Long as the key to their Black Country derby victory.
The skipper believes Long’s tireless work as an attacking spearhead was crucial to their 2-0 victory at the Hawthorns.
The Baggies claimed their first home win of the season and their first top-flight victory over their arch-rivals for 29 years, thanks to goals from Brunt on eight minutes and Peter Odemwingie on 76.
And Brunt said: “We were very sharp on the break and credit goes to Long for that. He worked his socks off and the amount of times he created things out of half-chances or made something out of a long ball was amazing.
“He worked very hard. He probably deserved a goal but we are all delighted with three points. It was a good performance. We defended well from start to finish and looked very dangerous on the break.”
