Ben Foster sets a mid-table target
Monday 26th September 2011, 2:30PM BST.
West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster today insisted the Baggies should target a mid-table spot instead of worrying about relegation.
The on-loan Birmingham man is adamant the club will survive despite their poor start to the new season.
Foster said: “We will be absolutely fine. I had the misfortune of being relegated with Birmingham last season, and also with Watford a few years ago, so I know what you need to in your team to be able to avoid that drop.
“I think realistically we’ve got to be looking towards 10th or 11th place. I think that’s where our true position should be.
“We’ve had a few disappointing results lately and a difficult start to the season, with the teams that we have had to play against.
“But we’ve got players who can score and plenty who can pick out a pass, and we can couple that with the defence and Gareth McAuley came in on his debut and headed balls and kicked everything clear.”
Foster joined in the summer on a season-long loan from Blues and has not held talks about extending his stay.
He said: “If Birmingham get promoted then I’m going to be back there – it’s as simple as that.
“If it doesn’t happen then there’s a decision to be made. It’s out of my hands and I just have to bide my time.”
