Youssouf Mulumbu quits Congo team
Friday 23rd September 2011, 10:00AM BST.
Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has quit international football for a second time.
The 24-year-old has written to DR Congo officials announcing his international retirement, just six months after ending a previous sabbatical.
Mulumbu claims he has taken the decision to prolong his club career.
In his letter to Fecofa, the governing body of Congolese football, Mulumbu said: “It is with regret that I write to let you know about my decision to withdraw definitively from international football with immediate effect.
“This decision has been taken following long discussions with my family and medical advisors.
“I hope to have the opportunity to extend my professional career which is the guarantee for my family’s security, by retiring from international commitments.
“It was an extremely hard decision but I wish you and the whole team great success.”
Mulumbu made himself unavailable last year following a row with national team officials over the organisation of the side.
But he was convinced to return, after receiving assurances that changes would be made, and that dispute is not thought to be directly responsible for his latest decision.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
