West Brom support will be crucial

Friday 23rd September 2011, 9:09AM BST.

Albion fans at The Hawthorns.
Albion fans at The Hawthorns.

It’s Friday, the weekend is nearly upon us, and we have a home game tomorrow to look forward to, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

I have had a busy but very productive week at work and after three away games I am glad we are back at The Hawthorns.

The game has taken on greater significance due to the fact we are bottom of the league but the reality is it is still very early in the season. Roy Hodgson and his team have taken a bit of flak for the performance level of the last league game against Swansea and the 4-4-2 formation of the team has come under further scrutiny.

Putting this issue to one side, partly because we have discussed it a great deal already, we do need to start getting points on the board. I am sure Roy will be under pressure to get a result tomorrow, not least because we need the points, but also as he faces one of his old clubs.

I must admit I will probably need a few settlers in the pub beforehand or I would be walking into the Hawthorns with the trepidation of an eight year old cage fighter.

I will be interested to see the team sheet, I fully expect us to stick with 4-4-2, but who will play is still anyone’s guess.

I get the feeling our Head Coach is still searching for the right blend of players that will make his preferred formation work.

The atmosphere should be good and I hope we can all remain positive and give the boys our greatest support. I may come over as being a bit negative but anyone who has sat next to me at games will assure you that during the game I am vocal in my support, sometimes a little to vocal.

I suppose I am lucky to have the blog to vent my displeasure, but what I am getting at is our need to support the team when they need us most.

Things could get a bit sticky tomorrow and fans could easily show their feelings, but folks this is only the sixth game of 38.

I don’t really have much more to add, I think whatever happens tomorrow the boys need our support. Whatever the formation and whoever gets the nod, let’s get behind them.

Having written three blogs in a week that’s me spent, hopefully there will be plenty for me to write about next week after we give Fulham a good hiding!

Up the Baggies.

Games in the prem dont come much easier than this, this is our chance to put things right for the time being,i just hope we dont go one down as i think then the crowd will start to get on the players backs and it will become very difficult, whats the betting Gera makes a show.

    Good morning Jarrod,

as you say,we’ve all had our ‘blast’,expressed our opinions, and told the Baggies exactly what they’re doing wrong, even though some of the answers have been completely opposite to others.

Against Fulham,we expect the players to be totally focused, and fully commited,so as fans in the stadium,we must have exactly the same attitude.

It’s time to put opinions to one side, and get behind the lads-

    1,Clacka,
Cant agree with you saying that they dont come much easier than Fulham.Fulham are an established Premiership club who over the years have spent many millions. We are fighting to get to that level without spending the money that they have and in my opinion go into tomorrows game as underdogs.Lets not run away with last years success because I for one would snap you hand off for 17th place at the end of the season.

Am I the only one who doesn’t feel that this is a six pointer or a make or break game ??

Teams like Albion will rely on their home games to build up enough points for safety and we have only had 2 home games…. Man Utd and Stoke !!! (how many points did you expect from those ?)

Swansea are playing on confidence like Hull, Burnley and Blackpool did in previous years – but I believe we have genuine quality in our squad that will see us do well over 38 games not the first 5 or 6.

Its not nice being bottom of the pile but its only Sept for crying out loud – thats one step up from being bottom alphabetically !!!

I fully expect us to get at least a point on saturday – but lets not fall into the wolves trap of expecting us to beat teams who are “lesser” than us…. we all know where that leads.

    We are Albion !!

Whichever manager uses his subs best, ((and the correct choice of subs), may well be the victor tomorrow. The extra time, the defeats, the confused system, will all play a part which WE can correct to some extent, but when the energy has finally vanished, fresh legs at the right time can swing the game.
I always watch the first 20 minutes very carefully, the balance ususally tips at that point.

    Morning Jarrod.
That blog was just what the doctor ordered as I was starting to feel ground down by the Negative Nevilles on here. Being a paid up member of the GHFC this week has felt a bit like manning the mealie bags in Zulu even some of the diehards seem to have been talking of negotiating a truce. Well said and I can only echo your thoughts ‘let’s get behind the team (all of the team, no scapegoats.)’

We’ve all gone round in circles in the ‘should we have fielded our strongest team on Wednesday night debate.’ But I think the real plus from the game was that a lot of ‘second string’ players have stood up to be counted and if there was a lack of application from any players last Saturday they will be looking over their shoulders now.

Got to agree with Shropshire the PL doesn’t do easy games. Whether it’s Fulham, Wigan, Swansea even Wolves last season there are no easy games. You may be lucky and meet a team having an off day like Swansea did with us last week but it’s very disrespectful to othere clubs to say this. We’re WBA not Barcelona.

But re: Fulham’s away record, you have to remember this reputation was forged under previous managers…..one being Hodgson (Swansea explanation perhaps??), anyway…..rubbish away records come from how teams set up and their mentality, but they’ll be a different side tomorrow to what they were last year and the year before, so I don’t think we can write them off as rubbish away.

Just on the bullying topic as I’ve been one of the accused on this.

I’ve yet to see anyone ‘bullied’ on here, disagreed with yes but if that’s bullying we might as well all pack it in. It’s a debating forum at the end of the day.

We have Filton, 1877, Father Ted etc all real Wulfies that post under their true colours, all been agreed with or given a flea in the ear at times but they’re all grown ups and give as good as they get.

If someone comes on with a new name and consistently posts blatantly anti Albion propaganda then genuine or not they’re going to get stick, I think the old adage ‘people that live in glass houses etc etc.’ IE If you accuse players of not trying or call them donkeys or say the Chairman is pocketing the profits you can’t then get all precious if someone questions your motives.

I’ve had a go at virtually everybody that posts on here except perhaps CR78 and Warren and almost them this week. It’s not personal I’m attacking peoples views not them personally. I even had a go at Bomber this week because I misinterpreted something he wrote. He knows I’m a great fan of his blogs generally and therefore didn’t come on blarting that TRBH has been picking on him but just calmly put me right.

I don’t think anyone would disagree on the point of buying a CH but why blame Peace? I think it’s common knowledge that the Chairman gives a budget to the manager that we can afford to spend and leaves it to the manager to decide with Dan Ashworth on how it should be spent. We were still trying to bring in a defender when the window closed so it’s not really down to Peace.

Is this post bullying you? It’s how I usually post and I’d say I’m putting a different point of view to yours.

You can say you are a STH or whatever – heard it all before – don’t care.

I don’t know or particularly care if you are an albion fan or not, but you chose to follow me on these boards complaining about posts I made and calling me a bully – I chose to defend myself.

Talk football or jog on cos I’m bored.

    new brosely baggie,
you certainly have a point. i wouldn’t exactly call it bullying, but it does seem a bit close-knit on here at times. one person in particular seems to me to be a bit of a nasty individual, bad tempered and ill-mannered. if you dare oppose or contradict him in any way, he’ll lunge two-footed down your throat and call you names. the same person who now laughably advocates sensible debate and friendly banter. i speak of him rather than addressing him because i go out of my way to avoid such folks in real life, so i’ll try to do the same on here.

as for the Clackas, Shirley Basseys etc who come on here trying to be clever with their poor diguises, i just think they’re a bit silly (though mildly entertaining all the same)

Look guys, when Wolves fans come on here and pretend to be Albion fans i find it a bit daft and just let them get on with it. But i do think we should stop trying to spot them, as it kind of brings us down to their level, and mistakes happen.

Its a bit like trying to spot a lesbian in a bar, because you both like the same things you can both be looking the same way and miss each other!!

Anyway ill be in the Sportsman tomorrow at about 12.30, everyones welcome to come and say hello. Then ill be in the vine after the game for post match analysisssssssshhhhhhh.

I dont want a fight, i have a habit of picking fights with people who simply kick my ass.

At the age of 9 while standing in line at our local off licence to buy my 20p mix, the girl in front of me asked the guy behind the counter “how much is your 20p mix”?

To which i responded they cost 20p for normal people but for thickos like you they cost 25p. For asking stupid questions it costs an extra 5p.
She said and who are you the brain of britain?
I said no and thats just cost you another 5p!

She then said “would you like me to knock your block off”.

I responded “no, and now your 20p mix is upto 35p”.

She turned out to be the UK under 14s boxing champion, needless to say she took me by surprise when i was left on the floor with NO 20p mix!!!

    and obviously when i say u14s i mean U10s.

    Clacha,
You wont have doubts about where the money has gone If you look at our Stadium + running costs.
State of art training facilities + costs. Take a while and think of all of the things like Electricity + water rates……… Yes Ibanez and Cech left and up to the end our club was trying to bring in a good quality Centre Back, ,although we had McAuley and Dawson ready to do the biz. Yes, as you say Mr.Peace did say he was happy with the numbers but it never stopped him trying to add.
What’s all this tripe about BULLYING, get real, with a nom de guerre like his, he is the only one that comes close, Whats say Bully?, LoL.

after the endless talk of ‘disguised’ fans on here, any chance of getting everybody to the Vine, then asking the E&S to take everyone’s photo, fingerprints, and issuinge us with a secret password?

I think it might also be a good idea to use some kind of ‘eye recognition’ technology, and plant a silicone chip behind our ears.

After these checks, and a visit to the E&S offices with our passport, maybe we can then get the all-clear to put a post on here.

    Is that OK?

Danger of underestimating Fulham. The team Jol has announced has an attacking look about it with only one defensive midfielder. Hope Roy picks a team able to control the midfield to set up plenty of chances. Hope Brian Ruiz doesn’t get selected. He is absolute class. But Dembele, Dempsey and Zamora all dangerous.

I don’t know where you’re getting ‘em from, but recently you’ve been comin’ out(-not as in a lesbian way-) with a string of comic gems.

You put our attempts at humour in the shade.

So I believe you should be given a regular spot in the new series of ‘Mock The Weak’.

And maybe you could bring out a joke book to raise funds for wolves,so than can buy a few more bricks to finish building the new ‘mol.’.

And pay a bunch of ‘extras’ to fill the seats.

I don’t think I know everything I know I know everything and calling the ones I wind-up people is using the word in its loosest sense.

I put my own POV, I attempt to raise debate, I recall things that were memorable to me in the hope that others reciprocate, I occasionally try to make people laugh, and I like a good argument as long as it doesn’t sink to abuse. You should try any of these sometime.

    Bully an Rocket,
I have just come back from a fishing trip in France, and catching up on whats been going on. But i see ive been accused of posting most of the anti Albion stuff that has appeared in me absence. NOT GUILTY. (although your paranoia does me great credit)
Anyway, i was already resting before i went off, due to Cyril telling me to clear off. He and a couple of others were getting upset with me, and upset was never my intention.
Wolves fans were all over the Albion boards (inc me ) and i could see that it wernt funny for the Albion chaps that had something sensible to say, so i decided to back off a bit.
Besides, it would be all too easy for me at the moment, what with Albions implosion. and ive never kicked anbody when they are are on the floor. haha.
I will still contribute if ok, but like i say, upset aint really me aim.

    97 Lonely-

when I replied to your post 2 or 3 weeks back,I actually said that this ‘Shirley,Clacka,or whoever’ was either someone like yourself, having a wind-up-

or heaven forbid,a Baggie’s fan that was an embarrassment to the rest of us.

As you’ve got a sort of alibi(you could still have gone online to relieve the boredom of sitting for hours without a bite),then he may actually be an Albion fan.

Although many of us are still desperately hoping he isn’t,believe me.

Maybe we can give him an old fixture list so he goes to the wrong place every week?

Or could you perhaps take him to France and ask him to stay there to keep watch on you fishing tackle-for a few months?
