Roy Hodgson is content with squad

Roy Hodgson is happy with his Albion squad – but still hopes to tempt Owen Hargreaves to the Hawthorns.

The Baggies boss confirmed he is no longer “actively seeking” players ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

But the club remain in talks with Hargreaves having offered the out-of-contract former England midfielder an incentive-based deal to join.

“I don’t particularly want anyone,” said Hodgson. “I’m pretty happy with the squad I’ve got. We’re not actively seeking players.

“Owen Hargreaves is different because he’s a player that’s come onto the radar from afar, we didn’t actively go out to seek him and we’re not actively seeking other players.

“We have the players we want and if anything happened now it would be if we were raided for one or two players and were short in an area.”

So rumours wanting Onuoha are papertalk can’t
see we could have afforded his wages.
Much stronger squad this season so we should
have a season of consolidation, but if the potential exciting Long and Peter partnership
brings success maybe a higher spot than last
season depends on key guys staying fit.

squad is much improved on last year,no doubt.but surely such a top manager as roy can see we are still in desperate need of a good centre half.there must be money still in the kitty as weve paid just 1 transfer fee so far,and recouped most of that from transfer outgoings.

It would be nice to have him to call on but I’m not too bothered now as we have problems fitting in all our midfielders anyway.

Considering Hargreaves doesn’t have a club, and in desperation posted himself on Youtube to say ‘someone please have me’,then he’s obviously holding out to see who makes him the best offer.
After we’ve talked to him for so long,if he decides to come to us on deadline day because no one else is interested, then I’ll be very disappointed, and see it as a sham if he ‘proudly’ holds our shirt up for photos.

If I were the Baggies,I’d say to him now ‘look, make your mind up,because we’re busy with running the club-if you still don’t know, then go and enjoy your retirement, because the door’s now being slammed shut’.

And don’t forget,he could break down in his first game back.

    Bye bye.

I still think we may do some business. If onouha is available at right price I think we would be silly to ignore. I have faith in tamas and olsson tho. And I havnt really seen mcauley before and scharner can fill in at the back too. As for hargreaves who knows. A fit owen hargreaves would be a fantastic addition, but I doubt we will be the only club in for him. Still, in roy we believe come on you baggies

I think I’ve watch four complete games this season,Albion v. Man.U./Chelsea,and wolves v. Blackburn/villa,and I have to say, hand on heart, that the Baggies’ games showed some prem. quality, but the two wolves games were like watching poor championship matches.
Even when wolves played Fulham, although I didn’t see it,The Sun gave EIGHT of the Fulham players 5 out of 10.

Their man of the match was Martin Jol,for a couple of impressive runs down the touchline.

The highlights today were N’Zogbia blasting a free shot wide from a quickly taken short corner, with no one near him, then Roger Johnson trying an overhead kick, and booting the ball into his own face.

Surely the prem. can’t all be this bad?

Although i think we have looked really good in the first two games and deserved something from them, i do still worry about our defence. It wasn’t good enough last season so why will it be good enough this season? We have added McAuley who we haven’t seen much of yet and Jones who Hodgson clearly doesn’t see as a first team player. I really hope to see us bring a defender in before the window closes.

Agree with most another defender is key, we need experience there and I would think taking someone with good prem experience and class is more important than bringing in untested championship defenders. We need someone with good pace as for a long time we have looked slow at the back made worse by the pace of many prem strikers. This is now the real last piece of the jigsaw which Roy needs to fill. Owen will probably end up at Everton and play against us in the cup!

I will although TRY to explain that football teams have to adust to different games/opposition, Both home and away. Im so so happy that you are chuffed with what you posses. But not half as happy as me seeing Wolves TOP with our cloggers and out of depth manager. It looks like we are parking the bus to the top of the league, to the detriment of true total footballing sides susch as yours. How dare we. Perhaps Roy and the faithful should have listened to jack when he championed the cause of Lee returning to help the cause. ( and you would have been happy with that, wouldnt you uncle ? )(notice i couldnt type his surname for fear of the post getting binned ? )
Only Stoke tomorrow, so i will look out and look forward to your apre match comments.

    14 Shirley Baggie-

you have to bear in mind that we now have Dawson breaking into the England under 21 squad, and getting very impressive reviews, plus if I’m not mistaken,we may also be able to bring in players on loan,or anyone that’s out of contract.

But never say never-Roy said in a recent interview that he’d like to bring in another centre-half,so he could be playing things down, then pouncing on someone.

It’s best to keep quiet, because I remember us saying we wanted players like Marc Wilson and John Carew, then Stoke nipped in and grabbed them at the last minute.

Don’t you just love that club?

Have to agree with Cantello re. Hargreaves, there’s apparently an offer on the table so take it or leave it and don’t come crying on deadline day.
Also have to agree with 14-Shirley, defence is the same as last season and is not good enough, need a strong central defender alongside Jonas so JP get the chequebook out and get Dann from Blues.

I think someone hit the nail on the head the other day, if he rally wanted to sign for us he would have done it by now and he’s using us to tout for a better offer. Good as he is let’s say sign now or s*d off.

I tend to think Roy means he isn’t desperate and isn’t going to be held to ransom over further signings. But if the right player is available at the right price we’ll buy.

We only have two defensive midfielders at the club and we play both in our first team regularly. Mulumbu might be going to the African Cup of nations this year and that will leave us short in the centre unless we play Jones.

Hargreaves still beleives he can force his way into the England squad and I recon he can if he is fit and playing Prem football. He is a fantastic player and I hope he takes up our offer. He is waiting to see if a better deal comes round but most clubs won’t have the same confidence in thier medical staff and probably already recon that we’re barking mad for offering him anything. I recon they are wrong IMO.

    9) Yeah, Liverpool? I would throw that one back at you, are you happy with the Wolves squad? and you cant see room for improvement any where?

    12) CR78, you are spot on, I have watched all those games and the Fulham one, and I have to say I have not be blown away by Wolves in any games as yet. Lets be fair though, Wolves can only play whats in front of them, and although Blackburn, and Fulham were dire, 6 points is 6 points, but I wouldnt go basing a season on those games, because no doubt, the games will get tougher. They need to get players in before Wednesday, end of.
I thought it was a bit disrespectful how MUMOTD took the mick out of the Villa-Wolves game for being so boring, true it was a snore fest, but to take the mick on National TV is a bit harsh.
