Albion defender Marek Cech has admitted he is keen to leave The Hawthorns.

But the Slovakia international has pledged not to rock the boat if he fails to secure his Baggies exit.

Cech, who has lost his first-team place at left-back to Nicky Shorey, is contracted to club for this season after they activated a one-year option on his contract. But the 28-year-old is keen to secure first-team football, even if it means leaving England.

“No player is happy to sit on the bench and neither am I,” said Cech.

“I’ve got one more year left on my contract with West Brom and if I get the right opportunity to change club during that time then I will. But if not I’ll be professional and fight hard for a place in the first XI.”

And Cech, who has league winner’s medals from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Portugal, insisted his spell at Albion had been beneficial despite time spent playing second fiddle to Shorey and Paul Robinson.

“I’ve come up from Slovakia, one of the smallest leagues, to England, the biggest,” he said.

Meanwhile, Albion are continuing their discussions with Owen Hargreaves as the protracted saga over the former England midfielder’s future continues.

The Baggies remain hopeful they can persuade the 30-year-old to join them on a free transfer following his release from Manchester United and they would like him in place by the end of August.
