Craig Dawson called up for England
Thursday 25th August 2011, 7:00AM BST.
Albion defender Craig Dawson has been handed his first England under-21 call-up for next month’s double-header against Azerbaijan and Israel.
The former Rochdale man, who was playing non-league football for Radcliffe Borough less than three years ago, has been named by boss Stuart Pearce in a 27-man squad.
Villa duo Nathan Baker and Nathan Delfouneso are included, while Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland has been called up to the under-21 squad for the first time.
Manchester United duo Phil Jones and Danny Welbeck have also been named, casting doubt over their involvement in the senior side’s matches with Bulgaria and Wales.
