Craig Dawson in line for England call
Wednesday 24th August 2011, 11:16AM BST.
Albion defender Craig Dawson could be in line for a shock England under-21 call-up after boss Stuart Pearce made a special trip to see him in action.
Pearce watched from the stands at Bournemouth last night as Dawson marked his competitive Baggies debut with a 4-1 second-round Carling Cup victory.
And the scouting mission could be followed by a call-up for Dawson for the matches against Azerbaijan and Israel at the start of September.
The 21-year-old, who was playing non-league football for Radcliffe Borough less than three years ago, continued his rapid rise last night with his first senior appearance for the club.
Pearce, who also got chance to run the rule over Baggies midfielder George Thorne at Dean Court last night, is in the process of selecting a squad for the European Championship clash with Azerbaijan at Watford on September 1 and the friendly against Israel at Barnsley four days later.
Dawson can also expect another outing in the Carling Cup after a second-string Baggies side, featuring none of the players who started Saturday’s Premier League game at Chelsea, recovered from a shaky start to beat the Cherries 4-1.
Boss Roy Hodgson said: “I thought offensively we were a threat. We had to defend solidly too, but we created plenty of chances and in the end it was a good performance.
“In the second-half, when the game opened out, our passing was good.
“It’s nice to be in the Carling Cup and progressing.”

Stewart Pearce,
There was plenty of young ALBION talent for you to drool over last night. Being as some weren’t used, you will need to watch ALBION teams on a regular basis.

Just read Steve(The Dingle)Madley report. Marvellous how much it differs from Roys and the Baggy fans. Notice how he has to mention an ex-wolves player. Thanks but no thanks Steve, you should report for the dark side.

Jack.
I’ve just read that too. No allowance for the fact that if you throw 11 players together they will take a time to gel. Good impartial reporting NOT.

Congratulations Craig. Your reputation for scoring and putting in some important performances for Rochdale should’ve put you in the running for a call up long before you got to us.
Silly how playing for a Prem team against Bournemouth can get you a call up but doing the same for Rochdale will get you no where. Funny, I would’ve thought it would’ve been harder getting results with Rochdale than surrounded by internationals.
One of the many mind boggling absurdities of football nowadays. If you ever get to play a game for Man U Craig, you’ll be made captain of the national side, Robbo was.
Well deserved call up, it’s just a shame you haven’t got more under your belt till now. Unlucky to George for not getting the nod as well, although there are quite a few biggish names in the squad. Keep chipping away with us and you’ll get there one day son.
What a cracking squad we’ve got eh boys?

Their logic seems to be: 25,000 at £20 is £500K whereas 10,000 at £80 is tons more, so sod the crowd anyway. But it is ‘NOW’ logic, not ‘FUTURE’ logic. In view of dumb looters using the internet for organised crime, it’s about time supporters used it to force some change in ticket prices. Certainly away games to start with. I’m amazed clubs having looked into their own websites being used to watch away games. A source of income with more people taking advantage than attend home games if it’s costed properly. It won’t really affect people like Sir Terence who will go away regardless, (as I used to when I was younger). It was a day out, tribal chanting, film on the coach, ‘been there’ feel.
