Peter Odemwingie sets top 10 target
Monday 22nd August 2011, 2:00PM BST.
Peter Odemwingie today set Albion a top-10 target for the season after returning from injury at Chelsea.
The Nigeria international followed the signing of his new three-year contract by returning from ankle problems as a substitute at Stamford Bridge.
Despite Saturday’s 2-1 defeat, which followed a loss by the same scoreline at home to Manchester United, Odemwingie believes the Baggies can better last season’s 11th-place finish.
He said: “We finished 11th last year and of course it makes our supporters expect more. That means we have to be at our best and our target is to get better.
“We didn’t sell any of our good players and a few younger ones came in, who the club think can help us.
“So we can only be getting better as a team and hopefully that will come through in the results to make us better than last year.
“I’m in a good team and hopefully we will finish in the top 10 as that is our target for this season.”
Odemwingie was back in action on Saturday 48 hours after ending a summer-long contract saga by penning his new and improved deal.
And the 30-year-old insisted he was never close to leaving the Hawthorns.
He said: “When players have a good season then some of the top teams in Europe might have a look at them.
“But I’m satisfied with where I am.”
