Youssouf Mulumbu on his Albion deal
Wednesday 27th July 2011, 3:30PM BST.
Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has claimed he turned down both Fiorentina and Bayern Munich to commit his future to the Baggies.
The Player of the Year insisted the time was not right to move on as he spoke for the first time about his money-spinning new contract.
The 24-year-old has penned a three-year deal with a further year’s option that could be worth up to £6million in wages if he sees out its full term.
Fiorentina and Bayern both showed an interest in Mulumbu this summer but the Baggies received no bids.
And Mulumbu said: “I heard about Fiorentina and teams like Bayern Munich but I don’t think it was the right time for me to go.
“I am very happy and the club also showed me their desire and gave me every reason to stay.
“I spoke with the board and they made me think about my situation and I think it’s better for me to stay at West Brom.
“I am very happy here.”
Albion now hope that Peter Odemwingie – last season’s 15-goal leading scorer – also commits his future to the club.
The Baggies have been in talks with the 30-year-old all summer about extending his contract.
