Albion still chasing Owen Hargreaves

Albion hope to schedule more talks with free agent Owen Hargreaves next week as the club continue their search for new faces.

The Baggies have already touched base with the former England international, released by Manchester United this summer, about a potential move to the Hawthorns.

Boss Roy Hodgson admitted Hargreaves’ dreadful injury record – he has made just two appearances in the last two seasons – may put the buffers on any deal.

But the head coach, while not name-checking the player, hinted that both parties are still in touch.

Hodgson said: “Dan Ashworth works like a dog and he is no doubt spending hours and hours on the phone and talking to loads of people.

“But I am very circumspect when it comes to talking about transfers because so much can happen with players you are pursuing, between the start of the pursuit and them coming to your club.

“So I prefer to wait until such time as I’ve got something definite to say.”
