Albion open deal talks with Mulumbu

Albion have opened talks with Youssouf Mulumbu on another new contract.

Last season’s star player is in negotiations over a third new deal in 13 months, after speculation linked him with Italian club Fiorentina.

Reports from his native France claim Fiorentina approached the Baggies about a potential bid of £5 million, but were told the midfield star is not for sale.

And Hawthorns officials are now considering improving Mulumbu’s contract, even though he only signed his last extension in January and the previous one last June.

Mulumbu has two years to run on his existing deal, plus a further year’s option in the club’s favour.

Talks with the midfielder will run alongside negotiations with Peter Odemwingie, who has confirmed he is set to return to international duty just five days before the start of Albion’s season.

The striker has settled his row with Nigeria coach Samson Siasia and is set to figure in the August 9 friendly against Ghana at Watford’s Vicarage Road.
