Abdoulaye Meite returns to France
Thursday 30th June 2011, 9:10AM BST.
Released Albion defender Abdoulaye Meite today joined French outfit Dijon on a three-year deal.
Meite returns to France five years after leaving for England, first coming to Bolton in 2006 before a move to the Hawthorns in 2008.
The centre-half was signed for the Baggies’ first season in the Premier League under Tony Mowbray but, after Albion were relegated, Meite was frozen out by new head coach Roberto Di Matteo.
To the surprise of Albion fans, Meite was brought in from the cold when Roy Hodgson took over as boss in February, first starting under him alongside Jonas Olsson at Stoke.
But Meite paid the price for poor form, including an own goal at Villa, towards the end of the season and was released when his contract expired in the summer.
