Albion launch home and away kits

Tuesday 28th June 2011, 10:00AM BST.

Albion defender Jonas Olsson and captain Chris Brunt unveil the club's new home and away kits.

Albion today took the wraps off their new home and away kits for the 2011-12 campaign  following their record-breaking new shirt sponsorship deal with Bodog.

The Baggies two-year £2m deal with the online betting brand is marked with a re-designed home strip in their famous blue and white stripes but a departure in the colour of the away strip – a first outing for cyan blue with new navy trim and new navy shorts and socks.

Sensitive to the business of their new sponsors, the club and Bodog are keeping the name off the children’s shirts.

But these new Adidas kits feature the latest ClimaCool technology, a mixture of heat and moisture controlling materials, ventilation channels and 3D fabrics which improve air flow to the skin in the key heat zones.

And the club, fresh from their best-ever Premier League campaign, are hoping to do a roaring trade from the off with supporters able to pre-order both kits on-line  via mail order, by calling 0871 271 9795, or in-store at the Stadium Megastore and Merry Hill club shop.

The home kit will go on sale on July 15, when pre-orders can also be collected in store, while the away kit is available from  July 29 when pre-orders can also be collected in store.

The adult long-sleeved shirt will cost a cool £49.99, while the long-sleeved children’s version comes in at  £37.99. An infant kit is available at £36.99.

I like them. I am surprised not to see another Red away kit but I guess that Adidas and WBA merchandising wanted to give us something distinct from previous years. I think the cyan blue away will grow on us as the season goes on – but I already like it.

Warren you are correct! The £45 shirt on the website is the short sleave version. £50 for the long sleave version.

I think like the price of the ticket on match day the price of the kit is part of the parcel and package of the modern game. They are expensive. However £45 is not out of keeping with other clubs.

Now let’s get PO signed up on a long contract and then I’ll be more than happy to get a new shirt!

Liking the away kit, but £2.50 for one cuff to an elbow, whats the material made from? some far eastern exotic silk! Still, in line with all shirts now days, over priced for what they are. As with all modern manufacturers, probably have it made in China or some where similar for £1.50, that’s quite a healthy mark up, but, if people will pay it, why wouldn’t you, someones got to pay Becks and his mates to be in those adverts!

Boring Adidas template for the home kit. Couldn’t they come up with something original? The away is OK. Something different from the norm to boost sales. I have one of the new polo shirts and have to say that the quality is not as good as Umbro although it does look very smart.

I really like the away kit! Not keen on the home one though, theres just a blank space round the shoulders that looks daft. Hopefuly we’ll get used to it.

On the red away kit, I was kind of hoping we would have red again. I once seen somewhere that when players play against opposition in red there is a subcontious mental frame of mind where they find it harder to play against and feel less confident. How true this is I dont know but it kind of makes sense if u think about it,

Man Utd, Liverpool the 2 most succesful teams in the country… And even England won the world cup in red.
Also wasn’t we unbeaten in red last season?? We always seem to do pretty well when wearing it.

Anyway nice at least our away kit aint orange (not gold) and black. Yuk :-)

I think the styles are brilliant, but what do I know ? Too expensive for me anyway. I have never liked black, it isn’t a ‘colour’, scientifically it’s ‘a lack of colour’. These new strips will be very visible to our players on the field and that makes sense to me. When you are surrounded by the opposition, even a flash of leg, oops, got carried away again, of a shirt is helpful for a pass. Mark me down as ‘FOR’.

I know what u mean, its just something I heard. Im not suggesting those teams Barnsley, Charlton, Rotheram etc put on a red shirt and should all of a sudden become Barcelona. Or Switzerland, Denmark, or Trinidad & Tobago should have won the World cup by now. If it did every team would be wearing red. Obviously u have to have some skill and superior / higher ability. But maybe it does give the team a slight edge over rival teams with a similar ability. Whether its in a big occassion event or over the course of a tournament/season.

Eg England over West Germany in white.
Or Man Utd over Chelsea in blue.

Who knows.. And I think that is correct, that we didnt lose in red last season. Its just things like that are strange and interesting.

Anyway I am still loving the away strip, if only the stripes covered the whole of the home shirt. Dont think i’ll be investing in the home shirt this year.

Disliked it for them, dislike it for us, although I’ve been told it looks better in the flesh. Have to say aswell , I think its terrible the Adidas logo is in the middle… basically saying they’re more imporant then the club, not to mention I like symmetry.

As for the away kit, better then I expected if im honest, although I think if the sponser, logo, and shoulder stripes were all white it would be much better, like that it makes the badge look odd

Back in 1944 we played in navy blue at home. No stripes, just blue. The club had what it could get and you needed ration coupons for clothes. Then in 1946, we played Villa at home and the club fetched out its stock of striped shirts, (pre-war probably). Several finished that game in rags and tatters as the cotton just fell apart with fouls, shirt-pulling, etc. Amusing yes, but marginally embarrassing too. But we were ‘appy in thorse deys wen we ‘ad nuthin’.

A few people mentioning we have the same template as other clubs e.g. Stoke, Newcastle.

All very true, but we also had the same template as a number of other clubs with our Umbro tops. The 2007/08 home top (promotion under Mowbray) featured a small pattern at the side seams, about 20 league clubs had the same pattern and same shirt but ours was probably distinguishable because it had stripes and several of the notable others didn’t. In this season’s case it seems several of those who share our template have stripes and are in the top flight, hence we’ve all noticed a bit more!!

Anyway, point being, that I agree with many of you that this is something of a disappointment, however I don’t think this is a laziness in design unique to Adidas or this season.
