Mulumbu’s future in Albion’s hands

Youssouf Mulumbu is content to leave his future in Albion’s hands as he prepares to return to the Hawthorns to begin pre-season training next week.

The midfielder, hailed by team mates and supporters alike as their Player of the Year last season, was the subject of summer transfer speculation last week with claims from Italy that Fiorentina had agreed a deal.

It was ridiculed by the Baggies who issued a firm reminder that Mulumbu was among the cluster of key players ring-fenced from leaving the club – other than for extraordinary money – as Albion make their plans to build on last season’s breakthrough campaign.

And Mulumbu made it clear this weekend that he is content to allow the Baggies to dictate his future, insisiting he has no plans to leave and wants to honour his contract which has two years to run.

He said: “Every player has a price, if two clubs agree a fee there is nothing you can do. I have a contract with the club and I want to honour it, but it is up to the club who has my registration.

“For me, I am still a West Brom player. Any club who wants me needs to convince them to sell me. I am ambitious and want to play at the top level all the time.”

Goalkeeper Scott Carson, meanwhile, is ready to complete his switch to Turkish football as soon as Albion and Bursaspor can agree a fee around the £1.5million to £2million mark.

But Albion have given a cold reaction to reports that they are interested in Tranmere’s young left back Aaron Cresswell.

Monaco defender Cedric Mongongu is among many being monitored, however.
