Albion net new kit deal with Adidas

Albion have secured their biggest ever kit deal after ditching Umbro and signing with Adidas.

The multi-year deal was confirmed today and could be worth up to £1.5m per season to the Baggies.

The agreement with German giants Adidas is the most lucrative ever for Albion, reflecting their growing profile after their best Premier League season.

The five-year association with Umbro was believed to be worth around £1m per season.

The new kits will be unveiled officially when Albion have finalised negotiations over their main kit sponsor for next season.

The deal struck with domestic emergency firm Homeserve last summer was only for one season and officials are now weighing up their sponsorship options.

But the new strip is expected to be ready well in advance of the club’s pre-season fixtures in early July.

Albion chief executive, Mark Jenkins, said today: “We are delighted to have joined forces with Adidas, who are renowned for the design and quality of their sportswear.

“We see it as a real coup to be working with such a leading worldwide brand, which reflects the strides we, as a club, have made both on and off the field in recent years.

“We are looking forward to unveiling our new home and away kits and training gear in the coming weeks.”

To mark the new deal, both the Stadium Megastore and Merry Hill Club Shop will undergo complete makeovers, featuring Adidas graphic panels, signage and wall units.

The Baggies are likely to take to the field in Adidas kit on July 20 for their warm-up game against Portland Timbers in Portland, Oregon, home to the US headquarters of Adidas.

The Baggies will become the second Midlands club to sign with Adidas in the last year after Stoke struck a three-year deal last summer.

The Baggies are celebrating a Premier League  windfall of £8m thanks to their 11th-place finish.

But the points haul of 47 means they will pay out £5.8m in players’ survival bonuses.

I think the remaining £2.2 million should be shared out among us fans!!!

Great idea, Jeff, No 1. The £2,2. million, divided among the 18,000 season ticket holders for season 2010-2011, works out at £122 each. A gift voucher for the club shop of, say, £50, would be a fantastic pr exercise.

The ever-continuing mystery of the Premier league and vast payments for players, via Sky money, is how poorly most fans come out of it. With around £50 million pouring in from Sky our seat prices should be £15-£20, rather than £40 for a single game. The Albion is also better than most, with ‘frozen’ seat prices and deals for quick renewals. I keep on thinking the financial bubble will burst for fans of all clubs, outside those with the richest fan-base, like Chelsea, north London and Cheshire. But no sign of it yet.

Stoney Lane – A season ticket is equivalent to £21 per game. Reasonable I say.

Lets put the £2.2 mill towards the wages of a decent striker to partner Odemwingie.

Interesting ideas. I think you’re right about the bubble potentially bursting and I think we’re seeing clubs think a lot more about elasticity of demand than they were a few years ago. Clubs up and down the country have early-bird schemes and the likes of Blackburn and Wigan are always looking to entice fans with 3-game tickets etc.

The season-ticket idea is an interesting one, but then how many would complain if we spent less than £10m on transfer fees as a consequence? It’d be nice to see fans rewarded more though.

1 & 2. How about reducing match day ticket prices so that I can take my kids more often. £92 to see Everton for me and 2 kids!!!!!!!!

It was 8d for me and 1s-4d for adults back in 1944. I can’t see why it ever needed to go up. I enjoyed the football then just as much.
We played Hell-up when it was 2s-6d (half a crown) to go in. The crowds went down on average from around 35,000 to 34,999 over the season. Served ‘em right we said!

6.shorty, well said, regardless of the club, its makes my blood boil to hear of these bonus’s when they are already on thousands a week, if the 5.8million is shared between the 25 squad players thats 232 thousand each!!…..then as you say a normal working class person cant take the kids as the cost is through the roof.

Yes but they are the going rates. In many respects, it’s a better approach to pay some of these players less than their peers and then bump it up with a bonus IF they perform, than it is just to give them the money anyway. It’s part of the reason Jeremy Peace is such an astute businessman.

I’m a bit of a closet adidas trainer collector so naturally thats good news for me. I actually liked Umbro but they did follow a pattern which was becoming predictable.

Who will be making the wolves kit this year? Nutmeg or a big coup like dunlop perhaps?

I have it on good authority that The Wulfies have done a deal with all the local Vets to stock their shirts. They spend a lot of time there getting wormed and inoculated against dragging their bottoms along the floor of The Prem.

Thank you for taking an interest in the latest range of West Brom merchandise.
However, it seems you are misinformed as to the exact locations where this premier sports and leisure wear can be obtained.
Sadly even Tesco, the leading retailer in the UK, and a brand that has always been associated with top quality, are not in a position to purvey this attire, designed and manufactured by Adidas, a name synomymous with sporting excellence, due to contractual complications with franchising.
Therefore, enquiries should be made to the club Megastore, or our retail outlet within the Merry Hill complex.
You will appreciate that in order to offer our legions of supporters the opportunity to regale themselves of such prime casual wear has taken months of negotiations, but I am sure you will agree that the delivery of a partnership of such magnitude makes all the time spent worthwhile.
Which brings me to my main point.
It became obvious during these lenghty negotiations that Adidas were only interested in speaking to clubs that they knew would be in the Premier League next season. Unfortunately Wolves spent far to much time looking likely to be relegated, thus Burra and Nutmeg will be fighting it out for your favours.
But don’t be too disappointed you’ll be able to buy your replica kit down Bilston market!

Finally thanks for acknowledgeing Sir Terry’s Knighthood!
