Peter Odemwingie axed by Nigeria

Peter Odemwingie axed by Nigeria

Peter Odemwingie’s agent today insisted the Albion striker remains committed to Nigeria despite being axed from the international squad in a row with the manager.

Agent David Omigie today attempted to end the dispute that exploded last night, when coach Samson Siasia dropped Odemwingie and accused him of walking out of the last get-together without permission.

Omigie said: “The Nigerian Football Federation is the governing body and their decision must be respected.

“What happened in the past is not an issue we want to go back to because of the respect Peter has for the federation and the coach and the loyalty he has to Nigeria.

“He will be ready to play when he is called on again.”

Odemwingie has been left out by Samson Siasia for a friendly against Argentina and an African Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia next month, after the coach claimed other internationals had threatened to strike if action was not taken.

Siasia claims the forward left the previous Nigeria squad without permission, with the pair also clashing over comments by Odemwingie on Twitter.

Odemwingie left the training camp in Abuja in March citing an injury ahead of a friendly against Kenya, flying back to England and playing for Albion against Liverpool four days after the international.

And Siasia said: “The other players in the team had threatened to stage a mass protest and back out of other matches if I failed to sanction Osaze (Odemwingie’s Nigerian name) leaving the camp in Abuja without permission.

“I had no option but to do this to instil discipline in the team. I didn’t want a situation where I or Nigeria would be totally disgraced by the players.

“Let discipline be maintained. Osaze is not bigger than the team or the whole Nigeria squad.”

Reports from Africa overnight claim Odemwingie’s omission was also a response to comments he made on Twitter about his withdrawal from the recent squad.

Odemwingie reportedly spoke on the issue through his Twitter account, although the comment was removed soon afterwards and the player has since apologised to Siasia.

He is said to have ‘tweeted’: “Unlike me, my finishing in training today was good. Hearing something that Siasia is angry I left. He needs to think a bit or he has got issues.”

However, the move is unlikely to concern Odemwingie unduly and privately the Baggies could be pleased with the development.

In an interview with the Express & Star earlier this week, Odemwingie admitted to feeling fatigued and in need of a summer break after Albion complete their Premier League campaign at Newcastle on Sunday.

His absence from the friendly squad would leave him with only Nwankwo Kanu’s testimonial match on June 11 to disrupt his close season.

I love peter as a player but he needs to grow up and stop insulting Nigerian coaches. He has done this with the previous coaches and he was not punished. i am so glad Siasia took a stand today. NO PLAYER IS BIGEER THAN THE NIGERIAN JERSEY. we’ve had greater players than him but they always respected the coach.
Everyone in nigeria loves him, i mean we now watch west brom games because of him. But almost everyone agrees he needs to be disciplined for his actions

Hmmm I think the coach may have fallen out with him considering the Nigerian FA stated he had a torn thigh muscle at the time. He came back for treatment and it turned out it was just a strain which is why he played against Liverpool! Funny how the fact that Victor Moses also pulled out of those games with injury yet played the week after for Wigan hasn’t been mentioned….

    28. Need to check your facts pal, I think we were in the bottom three for about two weeks of the entire season last year, but don’t let that get in the way of an anti wolves rant… (the black country is ours by the way)

What is it with you lot? I mean seriously? You do realise don’t you? I mean you do know that we can do things right? Just because we are rivals it doesn’t mean that everything we do is wrong and there is an underlying reason behind it.. You do know that don’t you?

We won the championship, we did not win through the back door of the play offs, we did not come second, we won it, by 8 points. You finish the season where you deserve simples..

We then stayed up last season, we did not finish 4th from bottom, we finished 15th… We also did not stay up on the last day of the season thanks to another club rolling over for us to ensure Southamptons demise (unlike some)

We have struggled this season granted, but we have taken 4 points off the mighty west bromwich brazil…

but oh no it;s not right is it? We only won the championship because it was a weak championship, we only stayed up because it was a weak prem, we only beat the might of west brom because they were on the beach.

Odemwotsiface is gonna be the next shearer cos he’s played well this season, never mind the fact that he’s 29 and hardly ripped up any trees elsewhere… Fletcher? no he’s rubbish cos he plays for us, don’t bother about the fact that he’s scored goals in two seasons playing in relegation threatened teams No, don’t let that blind you from the fact that he happens to play for us..

Some of you lot (and by no means all, Kev in mallorca, shropshire baggie, Cantello and a few others seem to be quite fair minded) are an embarrassment to be honest.

If that’s the case, you must know that he is now a hero at Albion, yet the only time you come on our site is to criticise him?

Surely that would be seen as a pretty stupid thing to do?

1)will have read most of these facts in recent stories on here.

2)would easily find the other info.,as you say,on google search,

I don’t want to get involved in a slanging match as I’m sure you know more about PO’s past than most of us.

It seems to me though that he seems to turn up regularly for his country’s games. He was going to turn up and play for the summer games as well as a testimonial for an international team mate. This despite the fact that he’s hardly had a break for two seasons and has been nursing an ankle injury.

I’m not doubting what you say but pointing out that it’s not easy being a top class footballer these days and keeping everybody happy. The Jack Wilshire debate is a good example. If PO comes back for the new season unable to train because he has a stress injury we could be missing him for the first couple of months of next season.

I think the answer is that there is too much sport these days, even cricket and rugby players are suffering from injury and mental burnout. The reason is that sport was invented as an enjoyable pastime but has been hi-jacked as a cash cow for unscrupulous businessmen who care nothing for the players or the fans beyond squeezing every last penny out of them.

    Sad but true.

I checked my facts and I found some more along the way.
They were that in recent years you haven’t finished above us in the table when we are in the same league as each other, we beat you 4 out of a possible 5 games in the 2006/2007 season, we overcame an 11 point gap between the two of us to achieve promotion in the 2001/2002 season even though you apparently had the ‘superior’ team, oh and we also gave you four points this season and you are STILL below us…..I do have plenty more but these are just a few of my favourites

The reason I’m stating these is because your fans are so deluded it’s unreal I mean you say I have an anti wolves rant then in your next statement you say “We also did not stay up on the last day of the season thanks to another club rolling over for us to ensure Southampton’s demise (unlike some)” You just can’t help yourself, the only reason I posted in the first place is because one of ‘your lot’ came on our page talking rubbish again.

Remember we’ve already had five seasons in this league, one more than your lot. So you took four points off us this season LoL. You were again lucky that the Premiership were very poor which enabled wolves to stay up.If Fletcher is that good , why has he been bench warming ALL season?.
