Cox backs West Brom chairman to keep Odemwingie

Goal hero Simon Cox today admitted West Brommight face a fight to keep Peter Odemwingie – but backed chairman Jeremy Peace to fight off any transfer vultures.

Cox struck a spectacular first Premier League goal to earn a draw at Spurs after Odemwingie struck his 13th of the season.

And Cox warned that bigger clubs will have to pay huge money to convince Peace to sell the Nigeria international.

“We want him to do as well for us as he can for as long as he is here,” said Cox.

“He has been an absolute revelation for us this year.

“If he keeps doing this inevitably the big boys will come sniffing for him but our chairman is no mug.

“He will try to keep him for as long as he can and it’s going to have to be a hefty price tag to tear him away.”

Odemwingie grabbed an emotional fifth-minute goal and marked it by unveiling a T-shirt tribute to Nigeria team-mate Olubayo Adefemi, who died in a car crash in Greece last week.

Cox, meanwhile, stepped off the bench to score his first goal in the top flight. He said: “That’s what every boy dreams of — scoring a goal in the Premier League.”

Every player has his price, which no club can refuse. Lets get that point straight. As long as Osaze and\or his agent aren’t chomping at the bit to move on, we will be O.K. Some players move on to clubs that have a different format and if the player doesn’t fit into that, he can find himself out in the cold i.e. Meite, Cox. Now look what’s happened to them now we play a differently. Imagine Osaze going to Liverpool who do not want to change to accommodate him, as they did with Roy. Would Osaze be happy with that situation, immaterial how much he is paid?.
Only Osaze can answer that question.

A few years back, I spoke to some of our youthful fans outside our stadium. Relating to them of quality players and great games I have seen. They replied with “We have never seen that, as long has we’ve watched ALBION. Wonder if we will ever see those times”. I really felt for them. These lads are grown men now. If they remember that chat, I want to tell them.
You wont be waiting much longer.

I think Simon Cox should give himself a big ‘pat on the back’. He could of gone out on loan & played regular football at a lower level, however he decided to put all his efforts into fighting for a first team place that wasn’t guaranteed.

I can see more than a hint of KP in his style of play & he will score goals at PL level given the correct guidance.

Barring a total disaster it will be interesting to see who Roy has in mind for next seasons campaign.

A message for Mr Peace. If we stay in the Premiership, sorry, we will stay in the Premiership but lose the best player we have had in decades Odemwingie. Go for Kevin Doyle from Wolves, if we can afford him, because I think he will fit the bill superbly.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
