Peter Odemwingie targets Olympics
Thursday 21st April 2011, 9:45AM BST.
Albion’s star striker Peter Odemwingie has set his sights on playing at next year’s London Olympics – and the World Cup in 2014.
The Nigeria international won a silver medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and is hoping to be called up again next summer as one of his country’s over-age players.
He said: “I don’t know whether I will be called on and we obviously still need to qualify, but it’s going to be another beautiful tournament and the fact it’s in England will make it extra special.
“We really sparked at that tournament in Beijing and the Olympics is special for anyone in sport.
“To come away with a silver medal was amazing and the whole experience is something I’ll always remember.”
Odemwingie turns 30 this summer and will be 33 by the time of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But after playing for Nigeria in South Africa last summer, he is hoping for a second taste of World Cup action.
