Bryan Robson’s thanks for support
Wednesday 30th March 2011, 9:40AM BST.
Former Albion boss Bryan Robson has hailed the “unbelievable support” he has received after being diagnosed with throat cancer.
Robson underwent an operation to remove a tumour from his throat at the beginning of the month and now faces a further five weeks of treatment as part of his recovery.
The 54-year-old, who played for Albion from 1974 to 1981 and managed the club from 2004 to 2006, confirmed he has inundated with messages from around the globe.
Robson is currently in charge of the Thailand national team and intends to continue his recuperation in Bangkok while focusing on his football responsibilities.
He said: “I would just like to thank everybody for their support. It has been unbelievable from all round the world and especially clubs that I’ve played for.
“I have got treatment ahead which is all planned out so I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that everything should be OK.
“All you have to do is name the word of ‘cancer’ and everybody gets very concerned about the extent of it.
“It is not too serious at this moment in time and is treatable, I’m thankful for that and I’ll just have to get on with it.
“I’m going to go back and have my treatment in Thailand over the next five weeks or so, because I believe if you keep yourself occupied and get on with the job you are not thinking of things so much.”
