Simon Cox back in Ipswich’s sights
Thursday 24th March 2011, 1:00PM GMT.
Albion striker Simon Cox could be the subject of a loan deadline-beating move by Ipswich after Portman Road boss Paul Jewell confirmed his interest.
Cox has struggled to establish himself in the Baggies’ team this season and has failed to score in 13 Premier League appearances, the majority of which have been as a substitute.
The 23-year-old has not featured for Albion since the start of February and Jewell has asked to be kept abreast of his situation, with the clock ticking towards today’s 5pm deadline for loan deals.
He said: “We asked about Simon a while ago, about five or six weeks ago. But he said that he wanted to try to impress the new manager, Roy Hodgson, which I fully understand.
“We haven’t heard anything to the contrary. We haven’t been back in for him, but we have been in contact with West Brom to ask them to keep us informed if things had changed and, at the moment, they haven’t.
“There might be a few other clubs interested in him, who are in a better position than us at the moment, in which case we might be up against it.”
