Jonas Olsson injury wait for Albion

Albion are again sweating on the fitness of Jonas Olsson after the defender’s Achilles tendon problems returned.

The Sweden international has been hit by pain in the same heel that forced him out of action for three months earlier this season.

And, despite Olsson playing a starring 90-minute role in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, boss Roy Hodgson admitted concerns are growing over his fitness.

He said: “Jonas was very good on Saturday. He has a problem with his heel, though, and that’s a concern for us.

“He’s missed a lot of football this year through injury with his heel – and at half-time on Saturday he was touch and go.

“He did continue and is having treatment at the moment. I don’t know what state he’ll be in because he’s got a problem with it.

“I think he did extremely well considering he was carrying that injury all through the second-half.”

Hodgson will hope for a positive bulletin on Olsson this week and the Baggies head coach is also urging the Austrian FA to excuse midfielder Paul Scharner from international duty after he was forced off at half-time on Saturday following a blow to the head.

He said: “Concussion is one of those tricky things. He doesn’t feel good and he’ll suffer from some sort of nausea.

“I think it’s going to be important for the next two or three days that he keeps a very low profile and stays close to the doctors.”
