Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Jonas Olsson backed to bounce back
Monday 10th January 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
Albion vice-captain Jonas Olsson was today backed to bounce back from the latest setback on his comeback trail after his Reading red card nightmare.
The Sweden international was sent off for two bookable offences in Saturday’s 1-0 Cup-tie defeat, just 15 minutes into his return from a two-month injury lay-off.
But assistant boss Eddie Newton backed Olsson to handle the dismissal and the one-match suspension that has ruled him out of his planned Premier League comeback at home to Blackpool on Saturday.
Newton said: “His mood is not good but he will be fine. It’s just another bump in the road we are going to have to deal with.
“We wanted to give Jonas 45 minutes. He’s been out for a long while and we needed to give him some minutes on the pitch.
“It just sums up what’s going on at the moment. I feel sorry for Jonas. He’s been working really hard, he’s been frustrated and just wants to get back.
“He gets his chance and, after 15 minutes of playing, he’s off. We were desperate to give him 45 minutes that he needed and subsequently it went wrong.
“When you’re going through a bad time these things happen. When it rains, it pours, but we just have to accept it and try to find a solution.”
Albion were awaiting news today on the fitness of Ishmael Miller, who limped out of the game with a hamstring injury.
Medics are hopeful that the striker was withdrawn on Saturday before doing serious damage.

Needed cheering up so thought I would read what the dingles were saying after their game against Donny – and found this beaut from our resident clown..
“I am not sure what bugs JTH the most, do you think it is:
A) The fact that Wolves are a bigger club?
B) Bigger attendances?
C) More illustrious history?
D) Better stadium?
E) More financial muscle?
F) Pundits praise us alot more than Albion?
Could be any number of things but I wish all the very best in his recovery. LW”
I was feeling really fed up but its worth remembering that there is always someone worse off than you… cheers LW.

Just sitting here going through the old Albion book “Albion The complete record”. Sickening similarities to the season 1995-1996 start to open up now. Back then we started the season very strongly with a strange dip in form midseason with a losing streak of 11 league matches ending with a 0-0 draw against Wolves in january. Sofar our losing streak stands at 5 league matches, prior to our upcoming clash with The Wolves we could very well be on 10 straight losses. After drawing with wolves in february ´96 we started to climb the table rapidly afterwards, more or less thanks to one man army Richard Sneekes signed in early march of that season. That´s where all the similarities will end, because we cannot sign anyone by march this time around and unless we sign 3 or 4 players and get rid of at least the same number or more players, then we´ve had it, I´m afraid. Being relegated 3 times is a joke, the thought of a 4th time is simply unbearable and chockingly humiliating. Albion, please prove me wrong – just for once…

I went to almost all of those 11 defeats on the bounce in 1995/96, I remember losing 3-1 at Reading away in the rain when they had Jimmy Quinn (the striker) in goal and we wouldn’t shoot, getting tonked at Derby (one of the first defeats I think) and Huddersfield and generally being woeful throughout.
I can tell you that watching this team is heavenly in comparison to what we were served up back then.
Just over a month ago this team were the surprise package of the Premier League. Whilst we were probably never gonna maintain that, this side hasn’t suddenly become poor overnight. We’ve too many good players just to freefall. A win Saturday and we’ll be okay.
If there’s anything positive from that comparison, it’s that even when we’re absolutely tripe, we still get results against the Wolves. It was 0-0 but I remember Andy Hunt missing a penalty so we could’ve won that really. I always considered Andy Hunt to be left-footed and I never understood why he took that penalty with his right…..

Happy,
Glad you read it too. Maybe the things that bug Lw most are: 1/ The wolves ” None strike partnership “, only when their back-sides strike the bench. 2/ Wolves were almost bust in the 80s, and had to re-start all over again. 3/ Sidwell knew Fullham were a much BIGGER club, owing to their EX-ALBION players. 4/ Our ground still has character owing to the floodlight pylons being retained. The Custard-Bowl looks like a trading estate. No wonder they’re looking at a rebuild. Have you seen that massive pile of rubble next to the big heap of Rabble, on match day.
Happy, I’m glad Laughingwolf can still dream in Technicolour.

To Warren.
I must go through my stack of old Albion VHS tapes and see if I can find the Andy Hunt penalty miss, can´t remember it. So, do you think there´s something dodgy about that miss?. I mean, in recent times there has been match fixing in Italy, Germany and Finland from what I know. So it could have happened in England, surely?
I know what you mean regarding Albion sides in the 90´s. They were much worse than nowadays. The first Albion match I saw was a truly dire one, we lost 1-0 to Watford in a midweek game february 1995. I remember people sitting around me hiding their eyes whenever Neil Parsley received the ball….!!!!!!Next time I saw Albion was a classic, though. A 3-2 away win at Pompey in ´97. Andy Hunt had a couple and then there was that Paul Mardon scissor kick! 2 more years passed and I was finally back at the Hawthorns 1999. What a mistake…2 matches in a row in the space of 4 days against Walsall and QPR. We lost both games 1-0 so I felt jinxed. 3 matches at The Hawthorns all lost by the odd goal. All was soon forgotten, because I lived for 15 months in England in 2000-2001 where I saw some very good matches and good victories both home and away. Since then I have been back most years for at least 1 match, my last being Villa Park just before christmas and we should have won that one by halftime.
And that is the typical Albion problem of recent seasons. Playing nicely but getting nothing. And I regret to think that this will be our undoing. I think that mentally our squad is too weak.
Oh well, there´s always next season and trips to Ashton Gate, Elland Road and perhaps Hillsborough and Bramall Lane to look forward to. Rather going to such classic old – if rather worn down – stadiums than going to characterless new stadiums like the Emirates, reebok and Britannia.
And, one last thing. Let´s have a FA cup run next year, too.

I believe our players will be really up for
Blackpool after that horrible night there when
an incompetent ref robbed us of any chance we
had however even with 9 men we pushed them on a bog of a pitch that effort took a lot out of
our guys we all know that Everton apart we have not got what we deserved in many matches
since, Olssen has been sorely missed his
dismissal was due to lack of match fitness also this guy is from the John Wile school.
These days players fall over at the slightest
touch Man u Liverpool penalty a joke. I hope
RDM will match Blackpools 433 and we need to
keep Charlie Adam under pressure hes great
coming forward but Thomas would have him dizzy
defending its down to our coaching staff to
have the right game plan.

Just noticed Blackpool have to play Liverpool
this wednesday so hopefully they will be tired
for their meeting with us saturday lets hope our staff have the game plan to snuff out their suprising season they have been very good on their travels but surely their over
performing players will run out of gas soon.
All neutrals love them but are they getting
devine help? its unbelievable. Tamas back plus
i hope Jara abd Mulumbu as holding players will give the rest to get numbers into their
box. ITS A MUST WIN but please leave Carson in
the stand.

It’s some thing we’ll have to live with you know how thick most Dingles are, they play with loaded dice or maybe even the E+S are fed up of our Moaning Morons posting mindless comments ie sack RDM for Megson etc.

the way i see it is that olsson should have been playing in the reserve side, last week or this midweek, to get in contention for the side against blackpool, getting sent off for late , rusty clumsiness has done us no favours, we got to play 2 upfront and attack blackpool, not just with the lone striker, if we want points the next three games are the ones to get em in, so come on u baggies

Happy and JtH- a very wise man once said, simply, that ‘the world is what we THINK it is’. As for laughingwolf,he believes that the planet is painted gold and black, and everybody knows that wolves are the greatest ever, they are just having a little rest since Billy Wright retired,errr…50-odd years ago? When he and the other wolves fans start bragging about being the ‘bigger’ club, what they don’t realise is that very remark turns them all into ‘laughingstock’.Think about it-you brag to everyone that you are ‘bigger’ than your neighbour, but every year, for the last 20 years, the ‘little’ guy comes around and beats you up! How embarrassing is that? The sensible way would be to stop shouting, leave slowly and quietly, and hope no one catches a glimpse of your red face…….

11 Kev- I saw all the posts saying ‘sack RDM’,but as usual,it’s the dingles in disguise. They are too thick to see it,but when they try to ‘blend’ in over here, they stand out like a lilywhite Brit with a knotted handkerchief on his head walking through a small Spanish village(I remember it well,I’ll never do that again). The problem is that wolves fans have been shouting ‘sack the manager’ for so long, they now say it all the time, like a trained parrot.Although a parrot actually knows more words than the average dingle.

Cyril- if you’re reading this,I wasn’t aware that you were ill,if so,we all want you to make a very fast recovery.I for one am missing your wisdom and intelligence (although a few less big words, please,I have to keep trying to find the dictionary).Don’t forget,we Baggies have great bouncebackability (er..I’d better check that, now where’s the dictionary gone…..).

Sir Tel- I wasn’t aware that wolves were giving everybody a free pint and £25 if they find a friend to take with ‘em.I’ve just checked up,it seems the offer’s been running since August, and so far the club have given away half a bitter and ten quid. They wouldn’t pay the full amount because the ‘friend’ they found had his hands and feet tied up,and was trying to crawl away from the game.

I think Olsson is particularly temperamental as he shown on a few occasions last season on the pitch and with your fans.
I am happy to post under my own name but very rarely do the E&S let the post through as I am a Villa fan.
Albion have had a great start to the season and up until recently been very fortunate with injuries and suspensions but ourselves and Wolves inparticular have been desperately unfortunate with injuries all season.
The statistics now say behind Stoke and Blackburn you have used the most long-ball tactics in the Premier League and you have the worst disciplinary record and the frustration is starting to show.
You have lost the last six games and teams have worked you out, RDM does not seem to be able to apply a plan B and make the opposition think about things. You play with with a back four and two holding midfielders at least every game but you are still conceeding goals and not scoring.
I would love to see you stay up for the sake of Midlands football but with Blues investing and Villa and Wolves behind you and players starting to return for both clubs I think that Albion are the most likely of the Midlands four to go down and your season is very much like Burnleys of last season.
Best of luck for the rest of the season.

20 AWWVFC- loffin’-I see this post has been pasted from a previous thread, but you can’t pretend to be clever. It’s not natural with you lot,we know that you’ve got someone else to do it for you.As I said before, you’ve put exactly the same words on other posts(time to learn a few more?),and when you have ‘villa and wolves’ together all chummy, the vile fans are mystified, because they see Albion as local rivals, but wolves as those funny talkin’ people with yellow shirts, somewhere near the welsh border.
