Steven Reid ready for Manchester United test
Friday 31st December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Steven Reid is ready to lead the battle cry against Manchester United as he stands by for a first-team return tomorrow.
Reid is expected to step in at right-back in place of the suspended Gonzalo Jara and give head coach Roberto Di Matteo the bonus of restoring a key voice in his starting XI.
The 29-year-old’s extensive top-flight experience and upbeat personality has established him as an important presence in Di Matteo’s dressing room and he will lead from the front tomorrow as Albion bid to snap out of a Christmas slump.
And Reid believes they have every reason to approach the challenge with optimism.
“The Premier League has been the strangest I’ve ever known,” he says. “Anyone seems to be able to beat anyone else.
“We saw that again this week when Wolves won at Liverpool – it was another example of teams in and around the bottom half of the table having a right go at the established big boys and getting good results.
“The mentality is changing a little bit. Rather than going into games with fear, teams are approaching these matches with every intention of getting a positive result.
“For us it’s about belief – if you think you’re not going to get a result, then you may as well not turn up.”

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
