Tamas and Jara to miss Man Utd clash

Albion’s calamity Christmas period deepened with the loss of two key players for the New Year’s Day visit of Manchester United.

The Baggies, beaten by Bolton and now Blackburn Rovers in the first two holiday fixtures, must tackle the title favourites with suspended duo Gabriel Tamas and Gonzalo Jara

Central defender Tamas faces a three-game ban after being sent off for deliberately bringing down Mame Biram Diouf in the dying minutes of yesterday’s 3-1 defeat by Rovers — a red card referee Phil Dowd confirmed was shown for serious foul play.

At a time when Jonas Olsson is still unavailable through injury, the Romanian international will miss the United clash and games against Fulham and Reading.

Jara will also miss the United challenge — and stretch Di Matteo’s resources still further — after he picked up his fifth yellow card to suffer his second suspension of the campaign.

Albion will at least have Chris Brunt  available again after serving his one-game ban against Blackburn but Di Matteo admits his main focus in the build-up will be to work on a defence which shipped goals too easily for his comfort yesterday.

“We didn’t give ourselves a chance to win the game,” said Di Matteo. “It was all about bad defending.

“We gave them a head start with the early goal.”

To be brutally honest we got our just reward yesterday. By we, I mean the crowd. I do not remember it ever being so quite in a first half with the match still only 1-1. The guy next to me said Blackburn took Robinson off at half time as they thought his yelling at his team mates might wake up the crowd.

The problem is that the average footballer seems to be born with skill in their feet, but a lack of brainpower in their heads. When Tamas commited the foul,we were already on the verge of losing the game, conceding another goal wouldn’t have made that much difference (IF Diouf had run half the length of the pitch and converted),but he’s now left us weakened for the next three games.Jara would have had the previous yellow cards wiped clean if he had avoided one yesterday, but made another rash challenge in an harmless area of the pitch to get himself suspended.RDM is an intelligent, cool character, but underneath he will be seething at these kind of actions.Unfortunately, although he can teach players about football,he cannot teach them how to use their heads. For every one Teddy Sheringham,we have a dozen Gazza’s and Rooney’s in the game.C’est la vie.

well i for one am gutted that we lost to a team that aint being playing well, with a stand in manager, and some chiken owners, aint to fussed about the defence, but if we had converted up front then the score could have been 5-3 to us, i think we need a striker soon, just hope we get a draw as did our neighbours against man utd, i think the alarm bells could be ringing, so come on albion 44 pts at least

A defensive nightmare jara was asleep for the first goal with carson in no mans land.Again carson and the defence could’nt command the six yard box from two corners.Unfortunatley if carson is fit he plays, jara had a mare but steven reid can come in and he always looks solid. What tamas was doing making a tackle like that on the half way line when we were 3-1 down god only knows. We have to stop this rot only three points above the drop zone, the dingles boss wants to drag into a relegation scap it looks like we are doing for him.We need a sriker in jan someone to put the chances away and to play alongside pete odewinge, chris brunt was missed on tues.

totaly agree about Tamas from a marvellous run
of suprising results the slide started with the ref at Blackpool playing with 9 men took a lot out the lads ok we had the suprise win at Everton when everything went in. We are admired for the way we play but cant recall
opposing keepers being m o t m debutant Bunn had only two saves to make even though they were down to ten maybe were all expecting too
much Man u didnt look anything to fear for us
but were more open than Brum Utd yet to lose can spoil there record most doubtful but old
fans will recall we always did well against
Charlton and Law however the difference is dosh these days.

I think the problem with Carson is the goalkeeping coach i.e Kieley. He has taught him all his bad habits.Kieley never commanded his area and his kicking was rubbish, same with Carson. If we put Myhill in goal it will be the same, because its the same coach. We need a goalscorer in asap.I know they are hard to find, but i am sure our superb scouting can produce. We also need to start playing a solid back four.Let the defenders do their jobs and the wingers do theirs. We also need our one striker upfront to stay infront of goal, not on the wing.If he does have to run the channel, then the opposite winger and midfielder in the hole need to push on and get in the box.If Kieley is to stay goalkeeping coach,he needs to make Carson command his area.Every ball that comes into the box should be the keepers, punching or catching.Even if he has to go through players,he’s got to be brave, not glued to his line. The keeper also needs to speak to his defense and organize more. The captain should also be either a defender or midfielder and not the goalkeeper.

Not usually on the bandwagon to leave players out but I think it is time Carson had a rest, mind you will Boaz fancy United on Sat for his league debut. Reid for Jara and Brunty for Tchoyi. Tchoyi more of impact player for me & not a starter. Morrison & Dorrans must show for all 90 minutes for us to give United a decent game. Too soon to panic, I’d have taken 22 points at this stage in August. But we cannot start a bad run with Fulham away, Blackpool, Wigan, West Ham & Wolves to come at home win these and we are ok even 8 points would be nice for starters. RDM now starts to earn his corn and hope Peace is not going to be his usual Scrooge in January because Roberto needs a little suppoort in the transfer window – 2 players min either bought or loan. We have come a long way lets not throw it away now.

LOL, Top Bat comment. After the Wolves result & our poor run of form RDM must be looking over his shoulder at the chasing pack. Can you imagine where we’d be if the Arsenal, Man U & Everton results had gone against us. As said previously, we don’t need to panic but we do need stop conceding Goals if we’ve any chance of surviving.

9 Sir Tel- missed the game, but the BBC report said Liverpool were ‘dismal’,and completely lacking in ideas. If you were watching in 3D at home, all you needed was a match ball, you could have scored against ‘em as well.

I haven’t posted for a while but after the result today I think I have to. Like it or not the Wolves are 4 points behind us, we play Man U next and we keep on getting silly red and yellow cards and suspensions.

RDM is a great manager but we need to play Shorey, Ibanez (if availiable), Scharner and Reid in defence aginst United.

I’m not a Carson basher but he is resting on his laurels at the moment. He once again beleives theres no competition in goal and his performance on Tuesday was woefull. He is not making glaring errors but he is starting to let in more goals than he saves. Get Myhill in for a good four or five game stint, not to punish Carson but to ignite that competition and give Myhill a long awaited oppertunity.

I agree with you on almost everything except Tchoyi. We need all our big guns out for Man U, for me that means a midfeild of Brunt, Tchoyi, Mulumbu, Morrison and Thomas. Dorrans and Zuivi on the bench and PO up front if he’s fit.

We need another striker asap in January. Miller isn’t good enough at all and Cox isn’t ready yet. I liked the sound of the Carew rumour. Like Peter, a great player unused by an arrogant boss desperate to prove himself.

Since Olsson and Blackpool we’ve stopped fighting back after going behind, we’ve conceeded silly goals, conceeded silly suspensions and missed glaring opportunities. On the other hand we have played well. We need to bounce back and erase these minor mistakes. Get over the fact Olsson is injured and grow a pair. Wolves beat Liverpool yesterday. Man U will feel just as confident at beating us at the weekend. No one expects a win but we need to pepper their goal if we’re going to take some confidence into an incredibly important January.

13: Probably no need to panic just yet – we’re still ahead of the normal points per game target and only 6 wins from the normal safety target; however there could be something in 7′s comment about the GK coaching … IMO confidence starts from being solid at the back and a big part of this is that the central defenders need to know exactly when to attack the ball themselves or when their keeper’s coming for it; this should be the keeper’s decision and there’s a lot to be said for the shout being early or they end up looking like muppets at this level; so, this could be where the coach needs to work … on the keeper’s decision making so the shout comes early enough.
