Bolton 2 Albion 0

Goals from Matthew Taylor and Johan Elmander either side of half-time condemned Albion to defeat at Bolton.

The Baggies dominated for long spells but could not convert their chances into goals with Chris Brunt’s header against the post the closest they came to scoring.

And they were hit twice on the break by the high-flying Trotters.

Paul Scharner made a vital early block to prevent a shooting opportunity for Kevin Davies and, at the other end, Zat Knight’s interception blocked James Morrison’s run into the box.

Albion also had a succession of openings as they dominated the opening half, with Peter Odemwingie missing the clearest chance after blasting wide from a clever chip by Morrison.

But it was the home side who took the lead on the break five minutes before half-time.

A header from Fabrice Muamba was helped on cleverly by Johan Elmander to Lee Chung-Yong, who was shepherded to the side of goal by Gonzalo Jara but managed to cut the ball back for Taylor to finish.

Before half-time Jara was a shot pushed over by goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen and, after the break, Chris Brunt headed against the post from a cross by Somen Tchoyi.

Then Morrison should have scored from an Odemwingie through-ball but Jaaskelainen raced out to gather.

The Baggies continued to press but their defeat was secured when Bolton doubled their lead with six minutes remaining.

Elmander tricked his way past Gabriel Tamas and Marek Cech and, when his first shot came back to him, he blasted home the rebound.

Bolton didn’t win this game, we lost it. If we don’t take our chances then we will be severly punished. They said on 5 live that PO missed a hat trick of easy goals. Ah well, lets hope we can get a descent striker next month to help out. I’m not panicing, as I thibk that we will survive and at least we haven’t got Wolves’s worries.

The thing is on another day the chances will go in. The main thing is we’re creating them.

Have a look over at the dark side. It’s not a pretty site. Natives very, very restless.

    We only need one half!

how disappointing, stats show we were the better team, by far, but finishing a problem, need that one crucial missing piece come January, a goal scorer, that’s it, that’s all we need, simples, oh well, could be worse, at least we are not bottom!! onwards and upwards.

    in RDM we trust.

Sadly, St.Peter’s halo slipped yesterday and nearly strangled him! Probably lack of practice because the timing was off. Nos. 1 and 2 just about says it all. Brunt’s poor tackle leaves us without him for a match now. It’s not too often a team high in the League playing at home play the ‘hit them on the break’ game against a set of mewcomers, but that was how it was.

Difficult to show my handsome face on here this morning but ill take the rough with the smooth. I was accused the other day, wrongly, by the Rocket of my dislike of every thing Baggy. So,to put things wright ill say this; After watching MOTD ive never seen such a one sided game where the better team lost. You should of won at least 4/2( and that flatters Bolton)On the other hand, after paying my hard erned to see that garbage served up at our place you would make anyone look good. We both need to add only one addition to our sides; You a better striker and us a better manager. Then you will be genuine top half and we will be genuine relegation dodgers. Good luck to both our clubs for the second half of the season. I hope this comes accross abit better than me usuall micky taking posts. (for the time being ive run out of ammo)

With respect, are you regular attendees at the Baggies ?

I ask because the general consensus, among fellow Baggies that i speak to at the games agree that Tamas is a more than capable defender and a good footballer to boot.

I am also at a loss to think of any real errors on his part yesterday.

    11) Northernsoul wolf

I am not sure how often you peruse these pages, i suspect not very often, because if you did you would understand the amount of references to your club in defeat, is in retaliation to the claims by your fellow Wulfs, of how good you are and how c*** we are.

11 northern wolf- you criticise Albion fans for watching what wolves are doing, yet you come on the Albion site to look at OUR business and see what we are talking about.Does the term ‘two faced’ ring any bells? And we all know if it was the other way round, this place would be full of wolves fans laughing their heads off.I suggest you go and sulk somewhere else.

    Odd fellow,
I would say wolves need more than a manager, like eleven footballers as well. How can you mention Albion in the same breath as wolves when talking of players required in January, beats me.

No, you are still taking the mick, as usual.

Thank you “The Only Fellow” good to see an honest opinion from our rivals. I think we all knew scoring goals was going to be, and has been in the past, our main concern this year. Thought the Saint was our knew King lets not get too carried away it is his first bad game and he will come through it! rumours this morning is we may be in for Carew from the Vile would be a wise addition if true? Agree with previous message Miller would be a quality addition.

12 the only lonely- you remind me of the weather, whenever you turn up,it’s either a cold front or a lot of hot air blowing in.Sometimes you praise the Baggies, sometimes it’s a nasty attack.I’m inclined to agree with TRBH,you are really a closet Albion fan,but sometimes go in denial and lash out in anger. Why not just desert the sinking ship, and come over permanently? The future’s bright,it’s blue and white. But you already know that deep down.Just have the courage to finally ‘come out’.

I saw the match on football first true we
dominated a team who are doing well another day wed have won in a canter yes we missed too
many chances it happens but i saw enough to think we,ll be ok personally i would give Cox a proven scorer morrisons place we do need
someone to deputise for Odemwinge. Olssen to
regain place move Scharner in with Mulumbu we
dont need morrison Brunts finally showing why
we paid £3ml he can have a well earned rest.
Dorrans coming back into form Tchoyi looks
useful(see him on utube awesome)Im really

No.9 I know the detail can be a little lacking on a monitor screen but both Bolton goals were quite forcefully made and scored, with defenders being barged out of the way in typical Davies and Elmander style. A little lucky too which we didn’t have. Hardly Tamas’s fault in my view. All players make some mistakes, sometimes costly, sometimes not, but I didn’t see him do much wrong, if anything!

    17. Rocket. haha. I know you are in need of “fans” but Lone aint ever gona take a backward step. You can change your missus but you can never change your club. (hope mrs Lone dosnt have someone read that to her ) I just try to be fair and objective with me musings as always.( snigger.) You all get the gag ( except Jack, he really hates me ) so i will endeavour to keep you Baggys in the shadow of the Wolf. And at the moment that aint easy. Back to the x box; Wolves have beat the Baggys 14 times today, an the day aint over yet!!!

A good performance but a bad result. Keep the faith. Posts 9 and 13 Tamas is a decent player but is prone to lapses. I think you will find it was his missed tackle that allowed Elemander to break for the second goal. What is concern to me is the fact that we can’t keep a clean sheet with our only one this season being against Sunderland. I also can’t see Morrison in central midfield he lacks the physical strength to play there in my opinion. On the positive side apart from The Man U game we have a crop of games coming up that should net a decent points haul and I think we will be safe by the end of February
