Chris Brunt: I want more West Brom goals
Tuesday 21st December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Albion winger Chris Brunt today revealed he needs more goals to make him happy.
The Baggies wideman has been lauded by fans and pundits for his starring role in the Baggies’ impressive first half of the season.
But the Northern Ireland international has admitted he will not be content until he rediscovers his goalscoring form of last season, when he struck 13 times.
He has struck just twice so far this term and he said: “I don’t think I’ve got enough goals this season. Last season my goals return was pretty good. I couldn’t ask for many more goals last season. But this season, that is my area to improve.”
Brunt believes switching positions has made goalscoring more difficult, but he insisted he is enjoying switching between left, right and central midfield roles.
“Changing positions a couple of times has made my role a bit different,” he said.
“I’ve got to adapt to that and, so far, I’ve been able to do it. Lately I’ve played in the centre. We weren’t as fluent in the Aston Villa game as we were in the Newcastle match because they stopped us playing. But I’ve quite enjoyed playing in central midfield in the last two games. I think it’s just about being back in the Premier League. I’m just enjoying the football more this season.”
“No disrespect to the Championship, but it is a long, hard slog.
“We earned our place in the Premier League and I think we deserve to have the points we have.”
Brunt currently stands joint top of the Premier League’s ‘assists’ list – level on 10 with Manchester United winger Nani.
And the former Sheffield Wednesday man admitted that scoring and creating goals will be the ultimate gauge of his top-flight success.
“It depends where you’re playing on the pitch,” said the 26-year-old.
“But that is a big part of a wide player’s role.
“Fortunately, I’ve been involved in quite a lot of goals this season.
“Even from dead balls I’ve been happy with my delivery.
“All the work we’ve been doing on set-pieces in training is paying off and we’ve scored a few goals from them recently.”

Apparently we have been scouting a striker in France by the name of Kevin Gameiro. Not sure if he is a target but we have him on our radar, little birdy told me last week!!
Had a quick look at his info as i had not heard of him, 23 and one of the top scorers this season in France. Plays for Lorient.

Good work Bomber. I’ve not heard of him either but apparently he’s recently been called up to the senior French squad so he can’t be that bad. That said, the French took a right Carthoss to the World Cup upfront ahead of him. He’s supposedly played on the wing so must have a bit of pace.
As for the article- too right Brunt, get your finger out, you’ve been terrible this season…..

Have you seen Brunt play this
season, or are you on drugs?

2 – if you’re serious you really are a plonker!!! Brunt’s been immense this season. He has the second most assists in the league (10). Beat that old man!

Warren you plonker. I remind you, irony is like goldy and silvery but not as shiny and is therefore easily lost among the dull things.

10 Warren- don’t worry about it.It takes less than a minute to tell most of my jokes, then another five minutes to explain them to the many blank expressions usually facing me.You get used to speaking a different language.

Cheers CR78 and TRBH
I did commit a schoolboy error in including sarcasm in written text in the hope that ANY Albion fan would appreciate what a fantastic season Brunt’s having.
CR78- If you can’t remember, ask one of your wives.

Warren,
Who says Chris Brunt is not a gentleman, or Wood for that matter?. As for coming from deep, Tony scored plenty of goals from Astle Headed knock downs. I did grasp your dry humour at post (2) but that type of humour is a double edged sword, don’t blame anyone, no matter which way they saw it, A bit like our Small Heath, wouldn’t you say.
