Roberto Di Matteo relishes pressure

Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo relishes the pressure of Premier League management despite the shock sackings of peers Chris Hughton and Sam Allardyce.

But the Baggies head coach has expressed his disappointment at the treatment of the duo by Newcastle and Blackburn respectively.

Hughton a fortnight ago and Dudley-born Allardyce last week were shown the door, despite their clubs placing in the top half of the table.

There’s no such pressure on Di Matteo at the Hawthorns, with his team sandwiched in between the two, as the Baggies have so far exceeded expectations this season after being promoted back to the Premier League.

But the head coach knows how fickle football can be.

He said: “If you can’t live with this pressure then you can’t do this job.

“You need to have the passion, you need to be able to cope with the pressure which comes with this job otherwise you have to do a different job.

“Nothing amazes me in football anymore because I have seen so much in football in my career.

“But I don’t know what needs to be done any more to be able to retain a job as a manager.”
