Albion’s Somen Tchoyi eyes a Wembley date
Tuesday 30th November 2010, 1:29PM GMT.
Albion winger Somen Tchoyi today set his sights on Wembley – but admitted he had not heard of the Carling Cup six months ago.
The Baggies wideman looks set to maintain his ever-present Carling Cup record when the Baggies head into quarter-final action at Ipswich tomorrow.
And, despite the competition being a mystery to the Cameroon international, he is determined to help club reach a Wembley final.
“It’s my first year in England so I was not that aware of the Carling Cup,” said the former Red Bull Salzburg star.
“I just know it would be massive to play at Wembley. We’ll be taking the game seriously on Wednesday. We’re taking the Carling Cup step by step and every time we win it gives us joy.
On Wednesday we’ll try our best to win again. We’ll be treating it as if it’s three Premier League points we’re plying for.
“We’re only thinking about what we’re going to do on Wednesday and how we’re going to be focused.”
Tchoyi scored his third Albion goal on Saturday to help them win 4-1 at Everton after stepping off the substitutes’ bench. The 27-year-old is hoping for more goals and the chance to start in the Premier League.
He said: “The whole team was happy with the Everton result and we’re looking forward to the next game. I always try to do my best for the team and I was really pleased with my performance. The third goal made it safe for us and made us more confident.
“To play against 10 men is never easy and it was good to get a fourth goal as well. I’ve not scored loads of goals, but I’ve scored some good ones.
“Every time I play I try my best to show what I can do. Wednesday is a good chance for me to show I’m worthy of a starting place against Newcastle on Sunday.”
