Striker Roman Bednar believes his Albion career is over after he was allowed to join Leicester on loan.

The Czech Republic forward has told reporters in his homeland he does not expect to return to the Hawthorns when his loan spell at the Walkers Stadium ends in January.

Bednar, who has not figured for the Baggies in the Premier League for more than a month, believes he has lost the faith of boss Roberto Di Matteo.

The 27-year-old said: “Once the manager let me go, my vision was not to return to West Bromwich. I don’t feel confidence in me from him anymore.

“At the moment I just want to be happy and play regularly. I think I have made the right decision.

“This loan has been settled so that I don’t warm the bench. I will be doing my best and believe I will gain ground at Leicester.

“The team is of a high quality and, in my opinion, should be somewhere else in the table.”

Bednar led an exodus of Albion players leaving the Hawthorns on loan this week with three more of his team-mates heading to the Football League yesterday.

Full-back Gianni Zuiverloon joined Championship side Ipswich yesterday until January 4, although the Baggies will have the right to recall the former Holland under-21 international after the first 28 days of the loan.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo said: “He hasn’t figured in our team much and I think it is always best for the players to go and play rather than just play reserves games.

“That’s the way we have to work to balance certain things.

“Also, the players want to go and play. That’s how we have to look at it sometimes.”

Zuiverloon was followed out of the Hawthorns yesterday by teenage striker Lateef Elford-Alliyu, who linked up with League One Tranmere, also until early January.

He joins fellow Baggies youngster Sam Mantom at Prenton Park, after the midfielder made a similar move earlier this week.

And teenage defender Paul Downing has joined League Two Rotherham until January 4 having spent time at Hereford last season.

Luke Moore has also extended his loan at Derby until January with a view to a longer agreement.

Roman needs to remember that if it wasn’t for the grace shown to him by the Hawthorns management when he was caught messing with drugs he may not be playing football at all right now. Whatever he thinks of RDM he needs to show a bit more respect.
However,I do think he will do well at Leicester though and if there hadn’t been such a clear break down in relations I thought he could have still been useful to us this season.

Other Loanees not mentioned are Chris Wood out at Brighton and Leon Barnett at Carrow Road.
Let’s hope RDM is making room for improvements to come in during the January window. We certainly need more firepower up front if we are not going to bring in Wood and Bednar, we are just left with Miller Cox and Odemwinge – that isn’t going to be enough.

I dont think its too bad an idea moving him out on loan, the management are obviously concerned about his form and sitting on the bench wont be helping his fitness. So why not loan him out until January after all we cant make any changes to the personnel until then anyway. Whats the worst that can happen? he does well and moves there permanently freeing up space for a new striker to come in or he comes back firing on all cylinders. Surely its a win/win situation either way. I do get the concerns about Millers fitness but what chance will he have of gaining the match time he needs if he is sat behind Bednar in the pecking order too?

if he wants out, then let him go, sure we can easily find someone to replace him.

Shame if this breakdown is permanent, but if the player feels this way then he won’t be back.Allway’s thought he could have done a job for us though,i mean, the strikers we have played recently have not shown much form have they. Why didn’t RDM give him the chance to play before just disregarding him out of hand???? 1 point out of 15,says it all really.

Well I’m not posting this because Roman only lives round the corner from me, but I’m really sorry to see him go and to hear that he thinks his career at WBA is over. How we can let him go out on loan and yet retain Miller is quite staggering. I’ll admit that Roman may not have been the kind of quality that is needed in the Prem, but I’d prefer him on the bench anyday. Lets just hope that POW does not get injured, cos’ if he does, then our options are pretty weak and thats being kind. Sorry you are going and best wishes with Sven at Leicester, hope it works out for you….and thanks.

I am disappointed at Roman’s reaction as well. The club stood by him in his hour of need but he seems to have forgotten that. More than any position in the Premier League a striker needs to have real pace which is why Odemwingie looks so good . Roman has made a valuable contribution in recent years in the championship but he lacks pace. Perhaps that’s why the club are persevering with Ishmael Miller because he is not lacking in that department. The requirement for a specific type of striker changed when RDM decided to play one up front. I hope Leicester play another striker with Roman which will get the best from him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a load of goals for the Foxes but the championship is a much lower standard than the Premier. I am a little surprised that Zuiverloon has been allowed to join Ipswich so close the quarter final.

good! he is a waste of space i dont know why all these albion fans are sticking up for him!
he is a decent championship striker, and that is all.
he has an average first touch, he’s an average finisher and he has no pace, so why is everyone so gutted?
we should sell him in jan and use the money to develop the squad further, if we keep him we are taking a step iin the wrong direction.

Roman has been a decent striker for us, going out on on loan for a month is better than reserve football,as can be seen by Roberto letting out others for the experience. Ish is younger than Roman and is not fit enough to be loaned out yet. I believe Roberto has bigger fish to fry in January. Watch this space.

Villa have slapped £80m asking price on Ashley Young!. Maybe they would like to pay £10m for Luke Moore.

Not good attitude is it really.
Can feel his despair at lack of game time of late.
But He is still employed by the club and no doubt the idea is for Him to get match practice.
Personaly I would have thought, send Miller out as He’s gotta prove fitness and contribution.
Where as Roman runs and chaces and gives complete effort when on the pitch.
Can’t understand why Miller was awarded a new contract when injured and unless the ball goes to his feet,He’s not willing to fight for the ball.
Come on Roman have a good month and change of heart.
At least you haven’t gone down the road.
    That would have been despairing.

I agree with Tom, Bednar is a good championship striker but not of premiership quality. Miller by contrast has the potential to be a force at this level. Cast your minds back to our last spell in the premiership and just before the injury against Portsmouth he had settled at this level, scored some great goals and looked like he would keep us up. If, and yes its a big if, he can back to that same level then there is no comparison between the two.

    In RDM we trust…

These controversial type articles from the foreign press are usually followed by a denial.

I’ve always been a big fan of Roman. I’m realistic enough to accept that he’s a very good Championship player and a lower end PL player mainly because of his lack of pace. He’s always given his all for us and any of the knockers on here should be ashamed of themselves. I’ll never criticise a player for lack of ability, only lack of application. I don’t think anyone could accuse him of this.

    13 Brierley Hill.
I notice you’ve put capital letters when referring to Roman as He and Him. Although I’ve said I’m a fan, even I wouldn’t give him God like qualities. I think he’ll get loads of goals for Leicester and will probably stay there. He’s another that will always get a good round of applause from me whoever he returns with (except our neighbours of course but then he’s better than that isn’t he?)

Just read Pablo’s interview. Doesn’t he seem like a great bloke? Gets on well with his team mates and no ‘Big Time Charlie’ attitude at all. A real good professional. It will be a problem for RDM when Jonas is back but what a good problem to have.

Not sure what some of you are seeing in Miller. He is not Premiership and is so injury prone that I think we should get rid of. Bednar may not be good enough for the league but I still rank him above Miller. Let’s hope he get first team football at Leicester and scores some goals. A sharp Bednar on the bench should be welcomed back with open arms.

Bednar leaving on a loan was a surprise to me, but more surprising is the comments re Miller
    8 Pace ????
15 potential to be a Force at this level???

you both must have been watching a different player to me.
When Miller is not injured which is not very often, i see a very lathargic lazy player that spends most of the time on his backside.
His all round contribution to the team is poor and whilst his first season with us in the Championship led us to believe he may have potential this has never come to fruition as every defender has sussed that he only has one foot and little else, so i would gladly see him leave on a permanant basis.

As for Bednar whilst it was a surprise especially with Miller staying at the end of the day whilst he is a grafter for the team the Championship probably is his level so lets hope for new blood in January but if Bednar goes please let Miller go to.
