Roman Bednar close to Albion exit
Tuesday 23rd November 2010, 11:05AM GMT.
Roman Bednar was today edging closer to an Albion exit as Championship club Leicester joined the race for the striker’s signature.
The Foxes fear missing out on Baggies forward Ishmael Miller so manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has turned his attentions to Bednar, joining league rivals Hull in the battle for his services.
Albion are willing to loan out the Czech Republic international to give him regular football, providing Miller suffers no setbacks in his comeback from injury before Thursday’s loan deadline.
Eriksson had been keen to take Miller, who he worked with at Manchester City, but the former England coach believes the Baggies will not let him go.
He said: “I don’t think they are willing to loan him out at all. The latest I heard from them is that they want to keep him.
“We have a few days to go and the loan window shuts on Thursday, but I don’t want to talk about certain players.”
However, sources in the East Midlands have confirmed that Bednar is on Eriksson’s radar, leading to a potential battle with Hull manager Nigel Pearson in the next 48 hours.
Teenage Albion midfielder Sam Mantom also left the Hawthorns today, to join League One Tranmere on a one-month youth loan and could make his Rovers debut at home to Hartlepool tonight.
And two more Baggies men, Luke Moore and Leon Barnett, look set to stay at Derby and Norwich respectively after impressing their temporary managers.
Moore’s loan at Pride Park ends tomorrow but boss Nigel Clough said: “We are desperate to keep him. Negotiations are ongoing to try to keep him until December 31.”
Centre-back Barnett, who has helped the Canaries to a storming start in the Championship, said: “It’s a great feeling to be loved. Hopefully something happens in January.
“I’m going to wait until January comes and maybe if there is something to do then we can do it straight away, then I can concentrate on my football.”
Norwich manager Paul Lambert added: “His performances have been to the highest standard.
“The finances of the club are what they are, I’ll try everything I can to do it, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

Surely it would be better to keep a fit Roman than a crocked Ish????

I really hope that this story isn’t true. We are struggling like mad up front at the moment, have only just got Odemwingie back from injury, have a very injury prone player in Miller who I don’t think is anywhere near Prenier League standard anyway, and a centre forward in Fortune who has never scored many goals wherever he has played. Bednar can play the striker role well, is good on the ground for a big player, links up well with Cox and is proven at this and international level.
It doesn’t make any sense at all to let him go.

THE HOFF, Bednar is not proven at this level or at international level either he is in the last year of his deal so this is a good move for everyone, miller has had a bad room of injuries and needs time and support not your silly comments, how can e link up well with cox when both hardly play,

I suppose Roman wants to play and there’s not much prospect of that. He’s going on loan so I suppose he will be back anyway. Despite his problems Roman’s provided some great memories for Albion fans. A fit Ishmael Miller would be a different proposition to what we have seen recently and I think he is worth perservering with. Good luck Roman you and super Kev were a sight to behold.

AGREE WITH NUMBER 1,WE SHOULD KEEP BEDNAR,I WOULD RATHER SEE BEDNAR PLAYING THERE,THAN FORTUNE-TO LIGTHWEIGTH-ROLL ON SATURDAY COME ON YOU BAGGIES,SHIFNAL BAGGIE

Isn’t it a case of using a months loan in order to get Roman match sharp in case he’s needed. Last time he played he understandably looked a bit sluggish. Losing him for a month in the Championship could do him and us the world of good.

Would be good for Roman to get some game time in the championship, as he has looked rusty for us when he’s played this season, needs to work on staying onside though, as he’s offside too much.
Other than that he is still a decent player.
id rather keep Miller for the bench and bring him on in the last 20 mins as his pace and power would scare tired defenders.
Boing boing!

It’s Carsons fault!!!

i say get rid of miller(will never be fit)and keep bednar, last time in prem he scored a few and could lead the line as a lone striker better than fotune.

I agree with you about Bednar but you’re looking at him as if he can come in and play as he did two years ago. The reason for a months loan is to get him back to that performance level.

I think it’s a sensible decision by RDM.He’s said that he can sense Bednar’s frustration at not playing (which I can understand because he’s the type of player who wants to be out there getting stuck in),so he currently has someone who’s unhappy AND just warming the seat.By January,Roberto can then decide if Bednar has sharpened his game,if not,I’m sure he will turn his attention to bringing in a new striker.Maybe we’ll end up with a back-to-form Bednar AND a new guy. Here’s hoping.
