West Ham 2 Albion 2

Pablo Ibanez scored his first Premier League goal to earn Albion a battling point at West Ham.

The Spaniard headed home with 19 minutes to secure a share of the spoils for Roberto Di Matteo’s spirited side at Upton Park.

They had led through Peter Odemwingie’s 38th-minute penalty but Scott Parker equalised with a thunderbolt before half-time before Frederic Piquionne fired the Hammers ahead from the spot early in the second-half.

But Ibanez’s goal prevented a third straight defeat for the Baggies.

Albion made a sloppy start and were on the back-foot for much of the first-half.

But they led on 38 minutes when referee Mike Dean correctly awarded a penalty for a pull on Steven Reid by Luis Boa Morte, as the Baggies man attempted to meet a Chris Brunt corner.

But the lead lasted just five minutes before the Hammers scored through a combination of slipshod ball retention and brilliance from Scott Parker.

Paul Scharner handed cheap possession to Carlton Cole and his attempt to win the ball back saw his challenge rebound into the path of Parker, who lashed a brilliant 25-yard effort into the top corner.

It was 2-1 four minutes into the second half courtesy of a dubious penalty awarded against Gabriel Tamas.

It looked like a soft decision but Piquionne showed no mercy, driving his spot-kick past goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Albion cranked up the pressure and drew level with 19 minutes remaining.

Brunt’s corner was recycled and the winger delivered a fabulous first-time cross onto the head of Ibanez, who converted at the far post.

Championship here we come, but there is Martin O Neill the only thing is he picks the team. And the 2 Davids just don’t have the money for a Manager of his class

1.Ulster. They have the money, it’s parting with it is their problem. There’s nothing wrong with the manager you have now, if they’d let him do the job. Anyway, you can’t say we didn’t deserve a point because we surely did. In fact, if we didn’t faff around at the back playing suicide balls at snail pace, you’d have lost! Both penalties WERE penalties and the ref got it right all night overall.

I deserved point for our 2nd half performance with a team scrapping for their lives.

    Good atmosphere there too!

It was a tough one doing the Dingles a favour but as Gary Megson once said “any point away from home is a good one”

Good result as I think not losing this game was much more important to the players and the fans than winning. After the ‘freak’ result at Blackpool, we needed to steady the ship.

Despite Ulster Hammer’s gloomy prediction, I think this West Ham team will start winning games soon and if he’s allowed to, Avram Grant will get them out of trouble (big if with the Piranha Brothers running the show.)

I think we’ve proved that with our first XI out we’ll give most teams a game. Last night showed that a weakened team can still do pretty well.

Some people on here lately have questioned the quality of the back-up squad. Man City are a good example of what happens when you have 25 players who all think they should be playing, disaffected players sulking behind the scenes.

I know it’s early days still but I’ve seen enough to believe that we have the squad to accumulate enough points to stay up. Not just that but we can harbour some hope of doing it with a bit to spare. That would allow us to then set about improving on the squad for next season and build on a solid foundation. (Thank you Mr Peace.)

I notice the bookie on Talklsport this morning quoted our odds for going down yet mentioned none of the other teams on the same points as us. Great, let’s hope everybody carries on underestimating us.

    UH,
You’re on the wrong site, Dingle.

Scrappy play but good point. Brunts left peg is the sweetest in the Premiership, that guy is a must on the left side. Also Barnes needs a run on the right. Smashing goal Ibanez, Ghosting in on the far post. Great game Carson. Must stop giving the opposition cheap possession. Never mind Mulumbu is back.

I see the wolves balloon hasn’t burst yet as they played well. Their strikers put a shift in.

TRBH, if you had heard those two commentators on ADHTE (ADTHE ??), last night, especially the Scots one, bias as a word needs reassessing! They were egging West Ham on like they were in the Piranha Brothers employ. Gross! One thing we need to address, NOW, quickly, immediately if not sooner, for the sake of my old bones and nerves, is the faffing around at the back when under no pressure that turns it into suicidal goals against. Last night I’m fairly certain it was Scharner got caught that led to their first. In two other games it was Mulumbu. No matter how well they play afterwards, it’s uphill. I do understand possession football, Man.City showed it at its best and we do it well much of the time, but dithering is not the same. We could have won last night and ‘not to lose’ ain’t quite as good. I was, like you, happy with a point overall, yet felt marginally cheated of the spoils at the end.
To finish, I’ve never had a better picture on the computer.

Anyone else hear about the punter who stood to win £350,000 on a bet he had about predicting that teams would score. One team let him down. Who could that have been? Answers on a postcard please in not more than two words both beginning with W.

    PS.
    On the subject of Wolves.
Wasn’t it good to hear a proper Manager Mad Mick, playing down a poor tackle on one of his own players.
Still, I’m sure that nice Mr Wenger would have been just as fair if the roles had been reversedwouldn’t he?

In terms of us being written off, I did notice that the two most reputable internet sport sources nationally both told how West Ham were HELD to a draw by us, despite us being 9 places and 8 points above at the start of play.

Also, resident football ‘expert’ Lawro professed that West Ham were ‘average’ but still predicted a comfortable home win. Love it, keep it coming!!

Mulumbu back on Saturday, Shorey’s had a rest. Quietly confident, we must get something at Wigan though.

I see our friends down the road have fallen into the ‘played well, not picking up points’ trap. Dangerous game that as we know from experience!!

    5 Sir Terry and Warren.
Did you see the extremely funny post on there at No 6.
The hilatiously named ‘Poorthorns ONLY 22,0000′ started his post. ‘Brilliant performance again. If we keep playing like this we’ll be okay.’ Ended his post ‘Best and most loyal supporters in the country. WWFC and proud.’

But you should really read it, I can’t possibly do it justice on here. It was so good I didn’t even bother seeking out Shadrag’s effort.

    8 Cyril.
Can’t argue with you on that one except to say it’s still early days for a team that is gelling (jelling, geling????) The one thing I feel sure about this season is that it won’t have been missed by our management team.

Whilst I am disappointed we didn’t win, on further reflection I realised that the team has done well despite key players being injured or suspended. Olsson, Jara, Mulumbu from last nights game for example. A settled team is also key to our success and again this has not been the case with Morrison out and players playing out of position. With St.Peter getting more match time and Mulumbu back, then we have a good chance against Wigan.
Again, one point would be OK but a win would really get our confidence back.
Is Thomas due for a rest?
Why does RDM not give Tchoyi some game time? The guy is mustard!
Is it time for Brunt to be given an extended run on the left??

Another average performance by Albion but I
guess we will struggle until our 1st choice
    defensive partenership of Jara,Olsson,and
    Shorey are back.
Hope to see Giles Barnes given a run out against Wigan as Thomas hasnt done much in the
    last 2 games.
Graham Dorrans was pretty poor again so the kid cant really complain about not been in the
    team.

Graham Dorrans is struggling to adapt to the pace and strength of his opponents in the Premier League but we have to remember that he is still a young lad and learning. I am sure he will come good but may need some time. I think the performances of Jerome Thomas in the last two games are due to him not being fully fit. He seems to be reluctant to run for any distance with or without the ball and he may have tight hamstrings. His whole career has been littered with injuries which is a great shame because he can be some player. I would give Tchoyi a run at Wigan to give Thomas a rest. Giles Barnes was much improved last night and both players could feature at some stage against the Latics.

Perhaps we should organise a competition to see who can come up with the best derogatory non de plume, to post on other side, might be fun, after smelly wolf kept calling my name a terrible moniker (the fact we have come from behind 7 times so far this season to get a result is lost in translation.), if you look at Wolves match report for Saturday, you will see the first poster is Orrible Monica, or in other words, me! apparently he his going to bounce me around, still waiting!

    18. I only need one half, cider, wine, etc., and I’m anybody’s! I’d also be offended if someone called me Monica. You’ll find that misguided ‘SmellyWolf’ should spell it ‘moniker’ or ‘monicker’, both acceptable as a WW2 request for your name. Now if you really are a Monica, (girl type person), then any bouncing around to be done has to go via Sir Terence or my goodself, firstly for trials and classification, you know, ratings in stars, then you can be let out to fellow Baggies as escorts at the match. If you are NOT a girl-type person, we don’t want to know!
