Leicester 1 Albion 4
Tuesday 26th October 2010, 9:59PM BST.
Simon Cox bagged a brace and Somen Tchoyi profited from another goalkeeping gift as Albion eased into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.
Cameroon international Tchoyi, who had been handed a goal at Manchester United by Edwin van der Sar’s howler, scored the Baggies’ second goal at the Walkers Stadium from a similar gaffe by Conrad Logan.
It restored Albion’s lead after a Nicky Shorey own-goal had cancelled out Cox’s opener for the Baggies.
Captain for the night Steven Reid headed in a Giles Barnes corner and Cox blasted home a long-range strike in the final minute to seal the win and secure Albion’s first League Cup quarter-final in seven years.
Leicester had the edge in the first-half, but it was the Baggies who claimed a half-time lead with the game’s first clearcut chance.
A cross from the right by Giles Barnes was helped towards goal by Tchoyi and Roman Bednar before rebounding off Miguel Vitor for Cox, who kept his cool to lift a shot over the advancing Logan.
Leicester went close several times from distance before half-time but they had to wait until after the break to draw level.
Graham Dorrans was caught in possession and Paul Gallagher’s low cross was diverted past goalkeeper Boaz Myhill by Shorey who had attempted to block the ball.
The momentum appeared to be with the hosts until Logan’s aberration killed their spirit.
The goalkeeper dropped a hopeful ball forward from Gianni Zuiverloon and presented Tchoyi with a simple tap-in.
Albion made sure of their passage to the last eight with 11 minutes remaining after Shorey’s curling free-kick was pushed onto the crossbar and behind for a corner by Logan.
From the resulting flag-kick, Giles Barnes found Reid at the far post and the stand-in skipper made no mistake with his head.
Then, in the final minute, Cox unleashed a powerful 25-yard drive that took a deflection and nestled in the top corner.

How cool is that when we can put out eleven changes from Saturday (like Arsenal, Chelsea etc do) and the team is still good enough to get an excellent result, Tcyhoi scores again, cant wait till he and Odemwingie play together, awesome!

It just shows our strength in depth. We ‘Big Six’ premiership clubs can do this.As with Man.U. tonight, when we play wolves in the league,we can also field our reserve team and get a result.Oh,it’s good to be a Baggieeeee…..

Took my daughter to her first away match she had a great night topped off with a fantastic win which really made her night.
Leicester did most of the pressing without really troubling us, Pablo Ibanez was a rock at the back looked comfortable and cool all night.
Cox was everywhere up front dropping into midfield and defending well where needed, a little concerned about dorran’s though still not at his best. All in all a satisfing night enjoyed by all including Lee Hughe’s

Listened on 1152AM Medium Wave whilst our illustrious neighbours had FM quality, Wolves on WM, Blues on TWO FM stations in Beacon and BRMB !
It’s about time we had Radio Sandwell on FM.
Of course, West Bromwich is a town, whereas the other pair are CITIES. Hope I pronounced that right.

I heard we were under the cosh a bit from the off but then clicked in to gear midway through.
I’ve never known an Albion team with so much talent and all playing their hearts out to get in the 1st team. Pablo as a right-back?
I think we will get an easy 3 points at Blackpool!

Two goalkeepers drop the ball and give goals away.
Their problem: They panic when Tchoyi comes calling.
£13.5 paid for two Strikers! and they can’t finish, guess who. Answers on a post card addressed to the Custard-Bowl, please.

Goals galore from the other players in our squad. Made Ibanez man of the match. Cox is not just a striker is he. Barnes is showing he is a wizard and has the pace to go with it. Well won lads and the next.

Not a great performance for much of the game but enough to win. Pablo, Barnes and Cox were all excellent and could easily slip into the first team when needed. A worrying performance from Dorrans – he looks short on confidence & needs a lift as we are going to need him firing on all cylinders once the injuries and suspensions start to kick in.
Interesting to see Lloyd Dyer give Cech a roasting in the first half as well.

Interesting to see the odds to win the Carling Cup.On SkyBet,Blues, who scraped through last night and were beaten by us in the league, are 9/1.Newcastle,who are a round behind us,and have to overcome Arsenal tonight, are 12/1,and Albion are 16/1.Why don’t the national media just come out and finally say it-we don’t like West Brom, you shouldn’t be here, you have no right to keep winning these games and spoiling our party, please go away!!There,I’ve said it.I wish they would be honest and admit it once and for all.

It as measure of the strength of Albion’s squad the we can make ten changes from Saturday and win the game easily. In fact it’s fair to say that not only can we field a team to be competitive in the Premier League but the team fielded last night would probably win the championship this season. Our only worry is the form of Graham Dorrans who has yet to re-capture last season’s form. He’s only a young lad and perhaps we expected too much. A bit of patience and I think will see him come again.

Off topic.
Our old adversary Single dingle last week was spouting his usual claptrap about the hugeness of Wolves and their, and i quote “global support”
There is a saying that it`s “a small world”
Back in the sixties, air travel was still a privilage of the wealthy.
Then with the advent of the package holiday, air travel became available to the masses.
Quickly following was Freddie Laker with his cheap flights, and later the real budget airlines indeed did make the world a smaller place.
Alas not small enough evidently for the “globaly” supported team who managed to take a pitiful 1000 fans to Old Trafford whilst we took just the 4000 to Leicester.

Lets not get carried away now. We don’t want to tempt fate like a certain club did down the road. Do you remember August when they were telling us that our 1st team were about 7 or 8 players short of survival?
Feet firmly on the ground I still beleive that Monday will be our biggest test. Blackpool aren’t affraid to attack and if we are going to be complaicent about any team in this league it would be them. Hopefully we can see it out with a win, but caution is needed. I’m a bit of a supersticious chap you see.

If Blues are better odds to win the cup than the Baggies at this stage then I think that perhaps a bookie somewhere is getting the sack today. Taking into consideration that Blues scraped a win against the lowest ranking side in the competition at home, they have also never won a major trophy in thier history. What bookie seriously thinks that this Birmingham side will be the golden generation? They are a good side don’t get me wrong but at the moment Albion have the momentum. Worth a punt methinks.
Cracking result again Baggies. It is fantastic being a Baggie at the moment. We’re through to a quarter final and 6th like one of the big boys, and we’ve done it our way. Long may it continue.

Good night out even though I missed our best goal ‘cos of having to get the last train back. 6 Astle: I wouldn’t say we were under the cosh really, except for maybe a few minutes after we scored the 1st. But Leicester were no mugs and 4-1 flatters us a little.
Agree with everyone about Ibanez. He never seemed to break sweat, yet he was everywhere, and always at the right time. We have 3 top-quality CBs at the club for the first time I can remember. I always thought Pablo was unlucky to be left out after Arsenal and if Jonas does have to miss a game or two, he won’t let us down, far from it.
Dorrans tried hard yesterday, came really deep to get the ball and did all he could to move us forward. He obviously isn’t right yet but he’ll get there. I was a bit frustrated by Tchoyi, who didn’t make enough runs behind the defence when Dorrans was ready to make the killer ball. But Barnes was sharp.
What a time to be a Baggie. Not quite sure we’re unbeatable, but if that’s how the lads feel, I’m not complaining. We’re bound to slip up at some point, but up to now they’ve done us proud. Keep it up boys.

18 BIM.
I totally agree. While I can understand AIK’s euphoria, we shouldn’t confuse being pleased with being smug. That’s when complacency sets in.
On the dark side there are still numerous Wulfies in amongst the realists that assume their natural superiority to WBA, Wigan, West Ham, Blackburn, Blues, Bolton, Fulham and of course little Blackpool, the list is endless. I’m not sure what they base this assumption on. As I said earlier, some of them are looking on the Man City game as a foregone conclusion, three easy points in the bag.
Let’s enjoy it while it lasts but let’s do it with a bit of class.

Sir Terry,
You’ve only got one life left, but you were close old son.

BIM,
I certainly remember their advice, also how we were leaving it late to recruit some players and how they had cherry picked the best from the relegated clubs, early. also You need to pay £6.5-£7m for players those £2.5m players are not expensive enough. HA, Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,AAH. What with Sir Terry’s jokes and those memories, no wonder my sides are splitting.

17 wba4eva. You do me great service cus i probably spelt it GLOBEL SUPORT. Anyroad, its a proven fact that when a club, is doing o.k. (and you are doing o.k. at the minute,) you do get extra fans that want to come and see what they aint seen for years, in your case, a WBA side that aint rooted to the bottom of the league. Hence your first full house in years last sat. We was on sky last night and the price we had to pay 4 a ticket was, i guess alot more than yours. There is a recession on u know? Enjoy your breif moment in the sunshine, god knows u deserve it. THIS sat we will have a full house again ( as usual) But we r used 2 it, u r not.

Good effort, but unconvincing.
A global/globel team …..such as yourselves, regardless of such trivia as cost, economic climate, sky sports et-al should still attract more than you did and indeed do.
Bytheway, like the banter with you.

Lonely wolf,
Hard “LUCK” against Man UTD third string, at least you didn’t have to travel too far to get home. Never mind wolves can “tank” City Saturday to make up for your disappointment or are you on the “Didn’t want to win it” bandwagon?. Do you think wolves will be able to hold onto Jarvis much longer as it’s a shame he is wasting his time with wolves?. Had to laugh at Mick saying he brought Jarvis of to rest him for the weekend. I bet he ( Jarvis )was over the moon with his three minute break.

I have been in that bar in Benalmadena,
i got conned into going there by my Wolves mates.
Now i know you Wulfies have a penchant for “bigging up”
So i am going to assume you really mean that you mix with people on matchdays that have been on HOLIDAY to Malta, Ireland, etc.
PS
I find BA`s club world one of the better ones,
try it mate, i dont think you will be dissapointed.
