Albion’s strikers key for Chris Brunt

Tuesday 28th September 2010, 10:01AM BST.

Winger Chris Brunt has claimed Albion’s battery of strikers will give them the edge over previous Baggies teams in the battle for Premier League survival.

The wide man hailed the impact of summer signing Peter Odemwingie, who struck his third goal in five matches in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Arsenal.

But Brunt believes the selection of strikers will be key to the club’s survival chances with Marc-Antoine Fortune, Roman Bednar and Simon Cox all competing for places and Ishmael Miller still to return from injury.

Brunt said: “Peter couldn’t have had a much better impact. He works hard when he’s got the ball and when he hasn’t got it.

“He gets into scoring opportunities and he won the penalty as well on Saturday. He has done very well ever since he came in but we’ve got a good array of forwards now.

“We’ve got a lot of options up front now whereas maybe last time we lacked that.”

Saturday’s victory took Albion to 10 points from their first six matches after they were tipped by pre-season pundits as relegation favourites.

Brunt said: “I don’t think we were ever lacking confidence. Everybody was always going to write us off at the start of the season because that’s what happens.

“But we are quietly confident that we’ve got a good squad.”
