Sky’s the limit for Peter Odemwingie

Monday 27th September 2010, 11:45AM BST.

Albion hero Peter Odemwingie has told fans “nothing is impossible” as the Baggies revelled in their stunning victory at Arsenal.

The three-goal striker believes Roberto Di Matteo’s men can compete with any team in the Premier League after they shocked the Gunners with Saturday’s 3-2 success at the Emirates Stadium.

The Nigeria international has been the target of jokes from his team-mates after speaking of qualification for Europe following the Hawthorns derby win over Birmingham.

But he said: “The Premier League is a big task because you have all the big teams to play. But you always have to believe in football. Nothing is impossible.

“Now we have picked up three points at Arsenal we can go anywhere and know that we can pick up points there, like when we go to Old Trafford.

“I didn’t say we should be aiming for Europe but I do think we should be aiming as high as we can. Why not? After Saturday, what I said makes sense to me.

“There were jokes in the dressing room that we should aim for the Champions League!”

Odemwingie took his Baggies tally to three goals in five appearances by scoring the opener in Saturday’s victory.

The 29-year-old is delighted to have made a flying start to his Hawthorns career.

He said: “For a league game this is one of the biggest wins of my career.

“When it went to 3-0 I was really surprised because away against Arsenal it was really great. Maybe 1-0 or 2-0 I could have believed, but 3-0 just made me go ‘wow.’ I didn’t expect that.

“I have scored three goals now but they have all come in wins and that’s the most important thing.

“If you prove yourself in the Premier League, you show to the football world that you can perform on the biggest level and you can play anywhere.”

St Pete, it’s great to see you have confidence and belief in us as it is shining within the team from what I can see.

I see the players trying flicks, dummy runs etc… and that is amazing for us.

I as a fan although still cautious don’t feel as nervous and hopeful for a goaless draw as I used to and believe we can get 3 points against Bolton.

We believe ya Peter! Now tell the lads to listen to the gaffer because we have another big game on Saturday. Bolton looked good against Man.U., so if we BEAT them, that’s better than Man.U. did. How about we aim to better our goal difference too? Doesn’t look real to see us top six and a negative goal diff. Upwards and on.

    Osaze,
You’re right and have the right mindset. The international players we have coupled with strength in depth, why not aim high. Arsenal
want a new goalkeeper!, well they can keep their eyes off Carson for a start. Every player was great but a spcial word for Chris Brunt, Terrific.

Every match in the Premiership is BIG and no-one knows it more than Roberto, believe me.
WE can thrive on big games because As Scharner

Scharner’s experience motivation and drive is a key factor here. It could have been so different if King Eric hadn’t failed that fitness test.
Bolton are no mugs and they look a lot more settled at the back than Arsenal do and are a lot more physical going forward. Feet firmly on the ground Albion because this is a game we should win if we apply ourselves. But it is a very different test to the Emirates.
You don’t get a free pass to the next season for what we did on Saturday; but you do get the chance to build on it and that’s what Roberto Appy and Eddie will do.
Also Paul Robinson welcome back to the Hawthorns. He doesn’t like a pacy winger. We need to exploit this on Saturday and make him wish he’d never returned.

Great result and it’s no fluke either – we’re playing very well. First target should be another 15 points by the end of November. Bolton will be a hard game. Up the Baggies!

Yeah, I read that too from the Poultice bloke. Arsenal’s team were from The Elephant and Castle, slow and lumbering, Baggies from The Eagle, fast and merciless strikers. Did you say he missed his putt, or was talking out of his butt?

Yes, we MUST give Robbo a warm welcome and no nastiness from anyone. He was with us about 5 years and that deserves some respect. Then if he does get grumpy, it’s on his own head. Bolton will be a big test. One to measure our development.

Cyril, must we really give him a warm reception? He once famously said “I would walk over hot coal to leave the Albion” then just after that ” I would have gone ages ago but my knees are dodgy so I stayed put for the wages” there are numerous other comments but I won’t bother.

I’m not one to boo or hiss but I won’t be singing his praises. He’s about as loyal as Lee Hughes. Nuff said!

Fantastic result 4 you guys ! Arsenal havent got any excuses after that one. ( That must be a first ) After you missed your pen i thought your heads might drop, but not a bit of it. RDM is making a big name for himself. Now, if i was an Albion fan, that would be a worry. A big worry. You wana hope Everton and West ham start winning. Never mind Celtic. At least its something we dont have worry about. Stepping stone club sounds even worse than yoyo. Well done once again.

I’ve said on another thread that your lot deserve way more credit than the media will ever give you. Simply a terrific result, and fair play to you.

I have no idea what your squad or your team is like – I didn’t watch the MOTD highlights, for painfully obvious reasons – but I’d be interested to know what your selections are like. Are you playing the right & best players in their proper positions? If so, I suspect this may be why you’ve had a far better start to the season than us, and we are where we are at the moment.

17.Astleis. I think those comments were ‘paper talk’ mate. Robbo wasn’t daft whatever else he may have been and we were paying his wages. My whole family had worked for the firm where I started my career and it was like a village in some ways, but I too had the chance to improve my career and took it. Elsewhere. There was always a soft spot for them though, that is until they vanished completely, so I did the right thing. Hughes did what was best for himself and family, except he blew it in a silly way. He did the crime and served the time. I understand he keeps in touch with the family he damaged. That shows remorse.

19 lone wolf- there’s no worries about RDM-Everton still love Moyes, and Sullivan’s West Ham did the dirty on Roberto’s best mate,he wouldn’t touch ‘em with a barge pole.Anyway, where could he go? There’s very few opportunities to better himself when he already manages a Top Six club. The one’s you mentioned would just be a big step down.Only serious choices would be perhaps Barcelona or Real Madrid…..

I am a genuine Baggie thank you and have been there at the worst of times under the reign of Ozzie, Burkinshaw, Buckley, Harford, Smith, Little etc…. season ticket ever since despite living in London.

I know a various people in media around the midlands and that was what was said. Maybee you are right that I’ve been led up the garden path but I think the move to Bolton may prove a small point as it’s hardly a great career move.

31.astleitk. We have had Marek Cech stating his case about not getting a look in under Tony Mowbray even when M.o’M. and that Robbo was picked regardless. Both had their admirers and detractors, one was ‘slow’, the other ‘couldn’t tackle’. My point is, the bloke played for us for 5 years and as such, should get respect, but if you don’t feel he deserves that, that’s your entitlement. Just don’t BOO, because that is demeaning to YOU.
I have a fairly simple philosophy. If someone riles me badly, they cease to exist. Far better than hatred, which is so corrosive to oneself.

How you greet him is completely up to you – i can only say how i will greet him which will be a clap at the start and the 90 minutes of giving him the bird…. but only cos he is an opponent.
