Jerome Thomas hails ‘fearless’ Albion

Albion star Jerome Thomas has hailed the “fearless” gameplan that brought the Baggies victory at Arsenal.

Thomas paid tribute to boss Roberto Di Matteo and his coaching staff for instructing the side to pressurise the Gunners in Saturday’s 3-2 success.

The winger said: “We had a good gameplan. The gaffer, Eddie and Appy had got together and come up with a gameplan to press high and for me, ‘Brunty’ and Peter to stay high up the pitch and surprise them.

“We caught them out and broke on them a few times in the first-half. Brunt missed the penalty and usually teams would get their heads down.

“But we stayed positive. We had a good talk at half-time and we know we have been playing well in second halves and we were confident we could do the same things.

“The club as a whole have learned a lot from the past and a lot of the clubs are losing the fear factor when they play the top four.

“They are playing their own game and that’s what we did. Everyone knows we can play good football.

“We look solid at the back and dangerous when we go forwards.”

Thomas scored the third Albion goal on his return to his former club and rates Saturday as one of the highlights of his career.

He said: “It is definitely up there.

“Along with scoring in the FA Youth Cup final for Arsenal, getting promotion last season and then Saturday are probably the three highest moments in my career.

“We went there and put in a great performance and got three points and I got a goal and set up a goal, so I am over the moon. I think we can establish ourselves as a Premier League team.

“I said at the start of the season that it didn’t think it was too much to ask to come up and not even think about relegation battles.

“We have to show no fear and establish ourselves as a Premier League team and build from there.”
