Chris Brunt revels in Arsenal win

Albion winger Chris Brunt has claimed Saturday’s shock win at Arsenal shows the Baggies have learned the lessons of their previous Premier League failures.

The Baggies wide man was celebrating victory today with his team-mates after they recovered from his first-half penalty miss to clinch a 3-2 success.

Brunt believes the Emirates Stadium triumph highlighted the improvements from the ill-fated top-flight campaign under Tony Mowbray two seasons ago.

He said: “I think we were pinching ourselves when the second goal went in, because we were 2-0 up at the Emirates and in control for most of the second-half.

“That is unbelievable but it shows how far we’ve come from last time in the Premier League.

“When we went to the Emirates on the opening day of the last Premier League season we only lost 1-0, but we got a bit of a runaround.

“Saturday’s result shows how much we’ve improved. It’s hard to put your finger on one improvement but I think we are more compact as a team.

“We work hard for each other with and without the ball and it’s paying off. I read Arsene Wenger’s comments before the game and he knew they were in for a tough test.

“We showed that and proved how good a side we can be but it’s important that we build on this and keep on improving.”

Brunt saw his first-half spot-kick saved by goalkeeper Manuel Almunia when it was goalless, but Albion bounced back from that disappointment.

The Northern Ireland international admitted: “I was angry at myself because when I put the ball down I was just going to smash it but I changed my mind at the last minute.

“Everybody tells you to never change your mind and that’s what I did so I was gutted, because I thought I had blown a chance for us.

“But thankfully the lads responded straight away we just went from strength to strength. For the last 10 minutes we were under the cosh but apart from that I thought we did really well. If we hadn’t won I would have blamed myself for it.

“I was disappointed with myself and disappointed that I thought I was going to let the lads down but we went on and got the first goal and I was delighted to have a hand in the next two, which made me feel a lot better.”

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
