Departing Walsall winger Romaine Sawyers has officially rejoined his former boss Dean Smith at Brentford after signing a four-year contract with the Bees.

Sawyers has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship side, who were offering a season's additional terms than what was on offer at Walsall.

The 24-year-old confirmed earlier this month he won't be extending his three-year stay with the Saddlers and has left the day after his contract expired.

Sawyers, who scored seven goals last season, again teams up with Smith and former Walsall assistant boss Richard O'Kelly, who left last November, in West London.

The wide man has attracted interest from a number of Championship clubs, following a string of eye-catching displays last season.

Wigan, who went on to win League One, made a move for him during the January transfer window and reignited their interest this summer.

Birmingham also expressed an interest in taking the St Kitts & Nevis international to St Andrew's.

But it's believed Sawyers – who was named in the League One team of the year – has always had his heart set on teaming up again with Smith at Griffin Park.

The two have had a close relationship ever since Smith first signed him, on loan for Walsall, from West Brom in 2013.
