The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but says all he is thinking about his firing Jon Whitney's side to the Championship.

The Saddlers host West Midlands rivals Shrewsbury tonight – a club Sawyers knows well having played for the Shropshire outfit seven times during a loan spell when he was an Albion player.

And while Championship clubs are believed to interested in securing his services, Sawyers is committed to the Saddlers' promotion push.

"My only thought is promotion," he said. "My mind is focused, I have got a great support team around me, my management company, family, friends and peers in the game.

"What a big thing it would be for a little team like Walsall to get into the Championship after 12 years. This is about making an achievement."

Sawyers has received widespread praise for his performances this season and just missed out on being crowned League One player of the year to Gillingham's Bradley Dack – he was though included in the League One team of the year.

And the creative schemer, who has scored six goals this season, believes Walsall's team spirit has been the key to their success.

"We've had managerial changes, we had a dip, but we managed to quickly get back on track," he added.

"We've had different things to deal with this season, but as a team our togetherness has brought us through."
