The 20-year-old, who can also play at full-back, has made 13 first-team appearances for the Saddlers since progressing through the club's youth system.

Kinsella is the son of former Walsall, Villa and Albion midfielder Mark Kinsella. He will now stay at the Banks's Stadium until the summer of 2018.

He said: "I'm absolutely buzzing to sign this deal. It's good to have a bit of stability for the next two years.

"My aim is to play more games and to establish myself as a first-team player. It's been hard to get in the side this season with the team doing so well.

"I've played a few games and I look back on my goal against Burton as one of the highlights of my career so far. Now I just want to work really hard in training.

"When I'm given an opportunity I always try to do my best and hopefully I can play more first-team games over the next two years."

Meanwhile, interim boss Jon Whitney admits he is looking forward to Walsall's clash with Bradford on Saturday – with Valley Parade one of his favourite grounds to visit.

Whitney said: "I love going there. It's one of my favourite grounds, it's a proper old-school ground and I am an old-school person.

"Bradford play a really high physical game. They have got good players and Phil Parkinson (manager) has got them playing really well.

"They will be disappointed they got beat on Tuesday at Coventry. They will be looking to bounce back. We have got to go there and frustrate them."

Walsall know they are likely to be promoted automatically if they win their four remaining League One fixtures.

And, while he believes the race for the Championship will be decided by the finest of margins, Whitney insists his players are ready for every eventuality.

He added: "Now it's all about will-power. Are you willing to sacrifice a bit more to get that extra inch?"
