In an entertaining clash at Gresty Road, a Tom Bradshaw penalty put the Saddlers 1-0 up following a first-half in which they dominated.

Prior to the goal, Bradshaw had hit the bar and seen a good chance saved by Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt, who also thwarted Romaine Sawyers when he was sent through one-on-one.

And the misses proved costly when Brad Inman registered his sixth goal in as many games to pull the Railwaymen level after interval.

O'Driscoll said: "I am disappointed with the result, in the sense that we did more than enough to get three points.

"But I was really pleased with the level of performance. We could have been out of sight in the first 10 minutes, but that's football.

"It was a different Crewe side to what we have seen on a difficult pitch. We got the ball forward really early and played off second balls.

"But defensively I thought we were excellent. I can only remember them really having a half chance with a header, but that was straight at Neil Etheridge."

Inman's goal came following a free-kick wide on the right and in hindsight O'Driscoll felt his side should have handled the set-play better.

The head coach said: "We have looked at their goal and maybe we had an extra man in the wall which we didn't need. That would have given us another body in the box.

"We gave a free-kick away. But when their game is to hit a big centre forward you are going to give free-kicks away.

"From an organisation point of view, when we have looked at it, are they going to score from 30-yards out. Probably not.

"If we hadn't had an extra man in the wall then I think we would have had someone in the space where the goal was scored from. They are the little details that cost you."
