The Saddlers, who exited the FA Cup to Championship outfit Reading on Saturday, won five League One fixtures on the spin from the end of November to the end of December.

Since then, Sean O'Driscoll's side have won just once in four league outings – with that victory coming at Bury on January 16.

And now, with only promotion to concentrate on, Chambers wants to spark another run of victories beginning at the Keepmoat Stadium.

"This season we have looked to perform in and win every game we have gone into," the captain said. "I think that is the reason why we have done so well in the league and the cups as well.

"Doncaster is a big game for us and we need to get back to winning ways.

"There is still a long way to go and we have to make sure we are putting points on the board. We need to get a bit of momentum and get on a run in the league."

Chambers is familiar with some members of the Doncaster squad after his twin brother James – who retired from Walsall in the summer – spent four years with the South Yorkshire outfit between 2008 and 2012.

Boss O'Driscoll also enjoyed a hugely-successful spell at the Keepmoat, winning the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and also guiding the club to Championship promotion.

"I know a few of their players and the gaffer will know a few of their players as well so hopefully we can use that to our advantage," Chambers said. "I don't know if they have changed much from earlier in the season when we beat them 2-0 at home.

"They will give us a good game but the lads know what a huge game it is for us because we are all focused on winning promotion."

Despite being humbled 4-0 by Reading on Saturday, Chambers insists Walsall can take a lot of positives from that game into tonight's clash.

"We felt we were in the game for the first half hour," the evergreen 35-year-old said.

"We knew the first goal was going to be important and I think that changed the game.

"It gave Reading a lot more confidence.

"But up until that point we were holding our own and created a couple of chances ourselves. But that first goal was key. They had two shots on target and scored both of them.

"The higher you go up, any slight mistake you make gets punished. They punished us for our first mistake but we will learn from that and come back stronger."

Chambers was also pleased to see transfer deadline day pass with Walsall keeping hold of star trio Tom Bradshaw, Romaine Sawyers and Rico Henry.

"As players, transfers are not something we have any control over," the midfielder added. "If one or two had left we would have had to adapt because our focus for the season is promotion.

"But of course we are going to have a better squad now they have stayed. Them staying benefits us. It makes us stronger going into the second half of the season.

"We have had a good first half of the season and now we are looking to replicate that in the second half."
