Despite dominating their last two games against Sheffield United and Swindon, the Saddlers have taken just one point from a possible six to slip to fourth in League One.

In contrast, promotion rivals Bradford arrive at the Banks's Stadium on the back of a 10-game unbeaten run.

And Downing admits he'd be happy with any performance against the Bantams, so long as it results in victory tomorrow.

The 24-year-old said: "We have been the best team, by far, in the last two games.

"We are playing teams off the park at times and if we keep performing like that then we are going to win a lot more games then we lose.

"But I'd take a not-so-good performance against Bradford right now if it meant we got the win. We have got to get back to winning games.

"Bradford will be a tough game but we're ready and we'll come out firing."

The game at Swindon's County Ground saw the Saddlers lose for the first time on the road in League One this season. But, with that unbeaten record gone, Downing is determined to set another.

The centre-back said: "It's was disappointing to lose that record, but we can't feel sorry for ourselves. One record has gone so let's start another, this time at home and starting with Bradford.

"They are promotion rivals but we've done well at home in similar games games this season. We have won games in top of the table clashes with Coventry, Burton and Gillingham.

"Now we need to go again, to keep believing because we have shown, countless times this season, we are one of the best teams in the division."

Phil Parkinson's side made a slow start to the 2015-16 campaign and failed to win in their opening five games.

But Downing always felt they had the quality in their squad to haul themselves into the promotion mix.

He added: "They have picked up – they have been on a good run, have good players and have a strong squad. We knew they would be up there at the end of the season.

"But these are the games you look forward to as a player – two good teams who both want to win promotion.

"It's another big game, at home and hopefully the fans will really get behind us like they did in the Gillingham and Sheffield United games.

"We have analysed the last two games and now are ready to hit the ground running."
