Dean Smith: We will be up for the Cup
Dean Smith insists there will be no let up for his Walsall players as they prepare to switch their attentions to the FA Cup.
The in-form Saddlers are back on top of League One following the 3-2 comeback victory over Gillingham last weekend.
But their promotion push will be put on hold for the visit of Fleetwood tomorrow in the first round of the world's oldest cup competition.
And Smith is determined success in the league will translate into the cup.
"We are approaching this game no differently to if it was a league game," the boss said. "It's a while since we have had an FA Cup run and personally, my record in the competition hasn't been great.
"I'd like to get to the third round at the very least.
"I still believe the FA Cup is the best domestic cup competition in the world.
"The finances that come with the competition are also very important.
"With being where we are in the table I was hoping to for a non-league side away from home because we might have then got TV money as well. It wasn't to be but it would be great to get another big club at the Banks's in the third round like we did with Chelsea earlier in the season."
Smith admits he has been disappointed with the Saddlers performance in the FA Cup over the past few seasons.
"We have had some tough draws over the years," he said. "A couple of years ago we had Shrewsbury, beat them but then had Leyton Orient who were the top seeded team at the time.
"And last year we didn't perform well at Shrewsbury away. Now it would be nice to go on a run."
The Cod Army arrive at the Banks's Stadium under the management of new boss Steven Pressley, who took over from Graham Alexander at the beginning of October.
