Walsall have opened contract talks with boss Dean Smith
The League One leaders have held early discussions with the popular manager whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Walsall rejected an approach for Smith from Rotherham last week and he confirmed he has entered talks to extend his deal.

"We've had preliminary talks and they'll be on-going," he said.

"I'm happy here and enjoy it and hopefully we can sort something out soon.

"I know people laugh but I've always called us getting to the Championship the 'improbable dream' - the impossible dream is getting to the Premier League.

"The more I see of this group of players the more hope it gives me they can sustain what they're doing at the moment.

"I've always said I want to be the fourth manager who takes us there."
