Dean Smith: Premier League mystery deal off

Walsall's move for a mystery Premier League starlet has broken down, boss Dean Smith has confirmed.

It was revealed last week that the Saddlers were in negotiations with a top-flight club as Smith looks to further bolster his squad.

But the manager, who is still looking to sign two new players, has confirmed the move for the unidentified youngster will not be going ahead.

"That one has fallen through," Smith said.

"But I am still looking to get a couple in because I still believe we need to strengthen.

"I would rather permanent signings but the longer you go the harder that gets.

"But there are a number of players who are out of contract and haven't got clubs at the moment."

Smith also confirmed he is still running the rule over one trialist.

"We had two here last week – one has gone now but the other is still on trial," he added.
