The 34-year-old became the first man to lead the Saddlers out at Wembley last season, too, for their losing effort in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.

That was tempered by a disappointing 14th place finish in the league, though, which Chambers wants to make a marked improvement upon.

He said: "I am chuffed that everything has been sorted. I've enjoyed my time here and it's good to know that I will remain part of it.

"It was an honour to be given the captain's armband at the start of last season, we had some real high and a few lows along the way.

"We put in some great performances and did well against some of the top teams last season, but inconsistency let us down in the end.

"We know what we are capable of and we'll be looking to get that level of consistency that we need. I'm looking forward to getting back into it.
