The talented winger impressed during a three-month stay at the Banks's last season, scoring nine goals in 17 appearances during a loan switch from Manchester City.

The 20-year-old is expected to leave the Etihad on a temporary basis again this summer, but Smith believes City boss Manuel Pellegrini will want to take a closer look at him during their pre-season preparations."I would like to bring Jordy back, he did really well for us and he is a smashing kid as well," Smith said.

"But he is a Manchester City player so they will have to decide what they want to do with him. They'll have a look at him over pre-season but he certainly ticked all the boxes for us in terms of character, type of player and mentality."

Meanwhile, Smith has played down speculation linking him with a move for former Saddlers favourite Milan Lalkovi?. The creative schemer, under contract at Barnsley, impressed during a loan spell at the Banks's in the 2013/14 campaign.
